Named for a Russian tsar, the bridge is one of the most luxurious in Paris. Built during the reign of Alexander's son Nicholas II, the bridge commemorates the Franco-Russian Alliance that Alexander secured in 1892. The style reflects the nearby Grand Palais, and the design's constraints ensured that it would not obscure the views of the sights beyond the bridge's two ends: the Champs-Elysses to the north, and the Invalides to the south.
