A contest entry/assignment for my character design class. Once again, I put it up for critique and got nothing but dirty looks and silence from my classmates. Except for the professor of course, who had a lot of great things to say. He even said I've got a chance at winning, provided "the judges don't hate on the anthro". Regardless of the outcome, it was a fun piece to do and I learned some cool stuff along the way.

Well, I'd digress a bit. The furry fandom has practically fought to earn their awful reputation. Truthfully, as an up and coming professional, I should be doing everything in my power to distance myself from it all, but I really love the good aspects far too much to just leave it all behind. Regardless, it would be nice to people get differentiated somewhat; I'd rather not get lumped in with the less than outstanding people this fandom harbors; in front of my peers no less.
Indeed, but there is anthropomorphic art in our everyday lives, much in advertising, as well as logos, and of course television shows and movies. The Na'vi from Avatar are thought of a a geek fantasy already, but they were purposefully mixed with feline traits to make them look more attractive, as well as different from humans. Most won't admit it, but liking a Na'vi that way is liking furries. But that's my digression.
I agree, it'd be nice to have different levels. There's different levels of nerd, after all. geek, trekie, fanboy, otaku, so on.

True, but most people simply don't give two shits about anthros one way or the other; they equally don't care about mildly sexualised animals, from Disney's output to the Cadbury Caramel Bunny to Avatar, because it's just another thing that's been around since time immemorial anyhow. As long as it's within the realms of acceptable sexuality, you can get away with a fair amount of shit in the real world. Both furries and the assorted /b/tards who still rabidly hate them years after anyone stopped caring probably look just as bad as each other, to the average man.
