I actually own a book that has a bunch of anvil history in America in it. Written by Richard A. Postman.
This is what a pristine 50 pound Fisher-Norris anvil cast in 1899 would look like.
They are made from a very high quality cast iron. A solid crystalline iron body with a high quality piece of crucible steel that is joined to the body when cast. The face of the horn and the table are also a high quality steel.
On the side you can see the Fisher-Norris Eagle on the side. It isn't the real deal unless it has that eagle on it (Or unless these anvils were sold to the South and the eagle represented the Union, so Fisher-Norris was glad to remove that if it made them more money carpetbaggin'.)
