Chapter 9: A Brother We Never Knew.
Dug- Wait, stop Alpha, we don’t know if this guy is even still here. Stop! As Dug was running after Alpha he saw Riley running down a path straight ahead. He saw Riley look back over his shoulder as he stopped in the middle of the path watching Dug run through the bushes.
Dug- Alpha, come on man we don’t know if Jonathon is even alive. Alpha stopped dead in his tracks and turned to Dug with dead eyes from the blowing wind.
Alpha- Look buddy, it is critical that we find this guy, he maybe our only chance to find out what has been going on here and maybe find out more about this company Lamdaton Industries. Alpha turned back around and kept walking through the bushes. Then they heard it again, a alarm sounding like a hazardous alarm was nearby. The retriever was coming down a trail directly beyond the bushes.
Alpha- We need to destroy that thing if we are ever going to get through here. Dug looked with Alpha and saw the giant robot walking on its four legs. The arm was moving back and forth searching for intruders. Alpha grabbed Dug and pulled him through another set of bushes across the way. The machine was walking right on top of them they moved slowly through the tall grass, trying to work their way back to where they activated the trap.
Dug- There it is I see the alarm panel; the light on top is still flashing red. The two dogs made their way back to where they activated the robot. Then they heard a very high pitch beeping sound from the distance! Alpha had just realized he stepped through a laser grid. The robot was getting closer as it was running quickly to where the disturbance came from.
Alpha- Ok Dug let’s take it out, the whole reason why I tripped that laser, was to attract it to this location. You stay here out of sight and I will go for the pressure switch. Burns taught me how to destroy the switch without permanently destroying the robot. Dug at there and hid while Alpha went off by himself. Alpha was shaking as he slowly crawled his way to the switch. He was not watching where he was going and rammed his head into the alarm panel. He yelped, Dug freaked out and was trying to find Alpha.
Alpha- Dug I am ok, I just hit my head on this alarm pole and now I got a boo-boo on my head. I am fine stay where you are and keep your eyes peeled for that robot. Alpha came out to the opening where the switch was visible. He grinned and made his way to the switch. He took his claws and ripped up the switch like Burns did, and revealed all kinds of wires. Alpha spliced all the wires not thinking sparks came from the broken switch and a boom sound occurred. The robot was right behind Alpha when he did this. Alpha turned around and screamed! The machine sprayed black vapor all around the location. Alpha dived for cover and his face in the ground. Trying to avoid the gas, Alpha could no longer see. It was black and the vapor kept coming out of the robot’s hose arm. Alpha was scared, He had to breathe but he knew if he inhaled it, he was done. The air started clearing and Dug screamed. Alpha rose up from the grass so fast he had no time to react. The robot was holding Dug and the arm was facing directly at him. Alpha had no idea it could talk until now.
Retriever- Where is your other dog friend, my readings show that your DNA sample does not match. You did not breach my system. WHERE IS THE DOBERMAN PINSCHER! TELL ME RIGHT NOW! Alpha clawed a cover door off the back of the robot and spliced more wires. The robot jumped around and scanned Alpha’s face. Retriever- Intruder indentified, you are dead Doberman. The robot sprayed more vapor at Alpha, He started running for his life with the retriever following him. Alpha sprinted through grass, bushes, and fields of muddy water and streams. The robot was tailing him spraying as he got close.
Alpha- Leave me alone machine I don’t know what you want! Alpha came to a solid rock wall, only two ways: left or right. He ran left and came to another set of bushes. Bur these were poison bushes. Alpha could not get through it. He darted down the other way and noticed several rocks were coming into view. He had lost the robot, but now he was lost, by himself in the middle of nowhere. Alpha walked down several paths and could not find a way out of where he was at. Alpha was getting scared he was all alone in a rocky filled environment. Then it hit him.
Alpha- oh no, I am in the labromith the number one place master always warned us about. I am getting scared and I do not want to end up like all the other dogs. Alpha took a deep breath and walked the lonely twisty rocks down multiple pathways and still could not find a way out. Then suddenly, he heard howling, yelping, and rapid barking. Like lost souls trapped in this area because this is where they fell. The eerie place was starting to creep Alpha out. He started picking up his speed and started running down every passageway. Finally after ten minutes of running through the passages he came to an exit and was excited to see the jungle again. Then right on the other side the retriever was waiting for him! It sprayed vapor and Alpha immediately closed his eyes and held his breath. He ran by the robot and it was on his tail again. Alpha looked behind him and saw the wires dragging the ground. He had forgotten that he ripped his protective cover off. He could drawn it in the water and destroy the robot once and for all. He saw a stream and it led to a small lake up ahead. The retriever grabbed Alpha and started to blow vapor when Alpha clawed the sensor. The robot threw Alpha on top of a thorn bush! Alpha yelped as a lot of thorns were sticking in his back. The robot started running out of control and slipped in the water. It flowed down the stream until it made its way to the small lake. The robot started shorting out. Electricity was live in the water as the robot slowly lost its ability to stand. It shut down and fell face first in the water and sunk to the bottom of the lake. Alpha looked as the bubbles from the water slowly faded into nothing. The retriever had now been destroyed for good, not temporarily. Alpha started heading back to Dugs location. He had no idea where he was, he activated the tracker on his Collar to find Dug. The beep started getting faster, he cut through several deep wood and came out the other side. He was back where he was before. The alarm pole could be seen in the distance. There was a error message being said through the loud speakers,
System- Critical system errors have occurred, Retriever robot is offline, multiple system breaches detected. Security compromised, error, error. Alpha made his way back to where they first encountered the robot. Dug was sitting there in shock and he could not believe what he saw.
Dug- you destroyed the robot. Alpha smiled and shook his head yes. He also showed Dug the thorns that needed to be pulled out of his back. Dug picked each one out slowly and carefully until they were all off. The two dogs now were now ready to enter the cave that was in front of them. Alpha and Dug snuck up to the side of where the entrance was. The two dogs both looked inside and entered. There was a giant workstation in the corner with multiple computers and a sat dish for network access. As the two dogs walked forward they were met by a barrel of a rifle aiming directly at them!
Man- Not another step or I will drop you both right there, who are you and how did you find me?! The two dogs gasped,
Alpha- No, stop! We are the good guys, I am Alpha and this is my best friend Dug. We are here on a special mission and we were hoping you know a guy named Jonathon Muntz. The man froze for a bit and asked,
Man- Henry, Dug? Is that you two I see? The two dogs looked at each other and both shook their heads yes.
Alpha- Yes sir, I am Henry and this is Dug, we are looking for Jonathon Charles Muntz’s brother. The man lowered his rifle and stepped into the light. He was a tall skinny man with a tan leather jacket and had grey wavy hair and wore glasses. He smiled at the two dogs and ran up to hug them both.
Man- Guys it is me, I am Jonathon Muntz. I am so happy you two found me. I could jump for joy. So what brings you back to Paradise Falls? Is my brother still in his mountain, he claims home? Dug and Alpha look at each other and look sadly at Jonathon.
Alpha- Um, Jonathon our master, he uh, he….died. He died a couple years ago. When our new master Carl Fredrickson was fighting him he jumped off the roof of the blimp and missed and floated down to the bottom. And……well you get what happens next. Jonathon was not surprised by what he was hearing he the dogs that his brother would take it to far one day, and that he would be defeated. Jonathon walked over to his workstation and smiled at both of the dogs.
Jonathon- Well I have a special treat for you……
Dug and Alpha- TREAT!, treat, oh boy, oh, boy, we love our treats!
Jonathon- SIT! The two dogs stopped and sat down like Jonathon ordered. Now before you guys rudely interrupted me, I have a special gadget to present to you. Jonathon went over to his workstation and picked up two new collars. They looked highly advanced and much cooler than the ones they had on currently.
Jonathon- Gentlemen I present to you, the translator collar generation 5. This bad boy will make the collars you have on now ops elite. This bad boy has a new communicator, sometimes on the collars you guys have now, the call would just cut out for no apparent reason. Now that problem has been fixed and the quality of the sound has also been improved. Your translator got the biggest update. You now have a much better processor in the chip, so your speech does not sound broken or incomplete. Alpha I think your translator has that problem but no longer. Oh and you will love this new feature I call voice pitch. This will let you toggle the pitch of the voice: low, normal, and high. Finally the GPS and tracker feature has gotten a huge upgrade. This new system has a real life view of exactly where you are, unlike the current gen system, which shows a map version which is totally unreliable when you are lost. This new system will let you locate in real time. So, you can actually see where in the world you are and the position. Now come see so I can put these collars on your necks. Dug and Alpha ran over to Muntz and he took their old collars off and put on the new ones. Alpha started talking but not in a low or high voice,
Alpha (In normal voice)- Hello, testing, wow what in the world? This is my new voice? This is so cool master, how in the world do you make this stuff? I am stunned with my new voice and the quality it puts out. It is amazing. Jonathon smiled as the two dogs had fun with their new collars. Jonathan walked to the entrance and looked out into the open area of the jungle.
Jonathon- A storm is coming fellows, if you giys have a camp spot I head back now. See out there towards the horizon, that dark grey almost black cloud out there? That is a storm cloud, and from the looks of it, it is a nasty storm. Alpha and Dug both looked outside with Jonathon.
Alpha- Is it a dangerous storm?
Jonathon- that storm looks pretty dangerous guys, that’s why you guys should head back where it is safe. Oh wait I have one more thing for you two, I finally have a chance to test these new ear pieces out. Alpha and Dug looked at the man with a confused look on their faces. They have never heard of an ear piece before.
Alpha- ear…. what? Jonathon- ear piece a heavy modified version of a radio that goes in your ear. These things are modified, meaning, this cannot fit any other ear but your own. I have gotten the results on the shape of both of yawls ear and designed it specifically to the fit of your ear. Jonathon walked over to his workstation and grabbed two little earpieces. He started installing them on the dogs.
Jonathon- So, here is how it works, this wraps around your ear like so, and the little speaker folds right in the ear like so. You won’t even know it is there the speaker does not touch the inner ear so you two are fine. Dug got gutsy and decided to test the radio by screaming in the mic! Alpha jumped almost ten feet in the air when dug screamed,
Alpha- Owwwwwwwwwwwww, Dug you idiot, are you trying to blow my ears out?! Don’t do that again. I am warning you don’t do it again. Alpha glared at dug showing some of his teeth. Jonathon came back and had a little more to say.
Jonathon- well guys, the ear pieces are a success, now they are buggy. I have not had a chance to pull all the bugs out so if they cut out, that could be one of the issues. Now report back tomorrow, because we are taking out that machine. Call of the wild. Cole thinks he will control the world with this thing, well he has got another thing coming. Just as Dug and Alpha were getting up to leave a man appeared at the entrance, it was Raphael Everyone stared him down, because why was he out here deep in the woods instead of back in the village?
Alpha- Raphael, what are you doing here? Sunset Village needs you there protecting it so no wolves invade again. Raphael just snapped and said in a intimidating voice,
Raphael- have any of you guys seen Fernando? He has not been at the village today and we are all trying to find him. I hope nothing hapend to him in the middle of the night.
Jonathon- Fernando Anderson? (Raphael shook his head yes.) Then yes I have seen him, last night to be exact. He was rambling on about the omnidroid robots, syndrome, the incredible and Evelyn Dever. I think Fernando is part of that company, or is evolved with that project that Cole is working on. I saw him I was out last night and I saw him sneaking by. He was entering Cole’s territory and he never came back. I really hope that Fernando is not connected with Cole, because if he is it will not be a pretty sight. Raphael just stood there with his hands on his hips and just shrugged his shoulders.
Raphael- I really don’t want to start making assumptions, but if he is doing something evil and the village does not know about it, he is done. The group just looked at Raphael. Suddenly you could hear thunder in the distance, it was getting dark outside.
Raphael- duty calls fellows I better get back before that nasty storm hits. If you guys find out anything about Fernando, please let me know. With that Raphael left and started running down the trail and disappeared around a corner. Du and Alpha looked at Jonathon and said they wanted to get going too, they did not want to get caught in a storm. Jonathon wished them luck and the two dogs exited the cave. The wind was now picking up and the storm was getting ever so closer to them. The sun was still shinning until the clouds covered it and now it was light grey. Dug and alpha walked down the hill and were walking along the wall of the hill. It was getting darker.
Alpha come on Dug I don’t want to get caught in this storm, let’s hurry up and get to our camp pronto. The two dogs ventured up the side of the hill which led to the trail to their camp. As they were heading down the trail Dug saw what looked like Riley hiding behind the bushes. Dug did not say anything and followed Alpha down the trail They came around the corner and Alpha jerked Dug back and put his paw on Dug’s chest.
Alpha- Dug, do you hear something? Dug looked all around but could not see anything that his eyes could see.
Dug- I don’t see anything Alpha. Alpha sneered at him and abruptly replied,
Alpha- I did not ask if you saw anything, I asked if you heard something, because I sure do. Alpha knelt down to the ground and crawled his way to where hr heard the beeping sound. He kept sniffing and finally picked up a scent. The beeping got louder and louder, until he stopped and heard rapid beeping, almost sounding like……land mines! Alpha gulped and slowly backed away. This trap was not here accidently, it was put intestinally here because this is where they needed to cross.
Alpha- Dug reach into the battery compartment, there should be a thermal lens in it. Please take it out and hold it over my right eye. Dug did as he was told, the wind picked up even more and the dark almost black grey cloud was now visible over the tree line. Dug took the wired lens and held it to Alpha’s right eye. Sure enough there were were seven hotspots on the ground. Seven heat signatures clear as day. Alpha could not believe what he was seeing. He turned to Dug and was now officially speechless. He walked a little closer and did not know how to avoid it.
Alpha- there is no way around it, our camp site is compromised. Somebody knows where we are, and they are initially trying to kill us. Are you just going to stand there Dug or are you going to help me? This is serious we need to try to find a way through this. Thunder roared a little louder as it got even darker. The wind picked up more and the chill of the wind rushed through the dogs’ fur. Dug finally got an idea; he saw a stick laying next to the bushes by the big tree on the left. He ran to it and picked it up with his mouth. Dug than walks over to Alpha and says he would throw the stick out onto one of the mines. Alpha stood there and smiled at Dug while saying,
Alpha- um, Dug, tell me honestly what do you think will happen if you throw that stick out there and trip one of the mines?
Dug- Boooooooooooooooooooommmmmm?
Alpha- that;s right Dug, Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmm! So I don’t think we are going to throw that stick out into the mines. But clumsy Dug tripped and threw the stick out where Alpha told him not to throw!
Alpha- HIT THE DECK! COVER YOUR EARS< THIS IS GOING TO GET LOUD!!! The stickfell and hit one of the mines then, boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Seven explosions went off and the two mines on either side of the two trees collapsed and fell either way into the poison bushes creating a blocked pathway. The trees were blocking their path to get back to camp. Alpha turned to Dug with fire eyes, he was mad.
Alpha (sounding like he was talking through his teeth)- Come here Dug, I want to tell you something don’t even think about running. What are you doing? Did you take stupid pills this morning? Look at what you did, we can’t get back to camp now. What are we supposed to do now Dug? Dug looked sad the sjy was now dark grey and it started sprinkling, The two dogs needed to find a new shelter to keep warm and dry. Then the rain started coming down, It was so dark now and the rain picked up. Dug and Alpha were getting rain in their eyes that they could not see. Lightning struck a dozen times followed by the roaring of the thunder. The two dogs came back up the trail and came to the cave of Muntz. He had sealed it up and they could not get in. The rain fell harder and lightning filled the dark sky. Dug and Alpha were now soaked and they needed to find shelter. Alpha squinted his eyes and barely saw another cave just beyond the way.
Alpha- I see another cave ahead, let’s go and see if we can stay in it. The two dogs slowly made their way through the storm and found themselves in a big round cave. Dug was trailing he thought he saw a shape in the distance when lightning just struck. Dug slowly made his way in and Alpha sealed the big round door to the entrance. The thunder now sounded muffled. The two dogs were now in a big round room, along the back wall led down a long narrow passageway leading deeper inside the cave. Torches on the wall ran along the left wall and looped around the corner.
Alpha- I don’t like what I am seeing with my own eyes Dug, we don’t know what lives in here. For all we know, this could be a home of a bear. Dug and Alpha slowly made their way down the long narrow hallway and followed the path. They finally came around the corner and came to a giant room. Alpha saw a wall filled with dogs. The wall caught Alpha’s eye as he walked up to it and saw faces of dogs that looked like previous pack members. A big red X ran through it, indicating that these animals were terminated.
Alpha- What on earth is this. A voice from behind them scared them both; a big black bear came from one of the tunnels and sat next to the wall of shame. The bear introduced himself,
Gordon- Hi yawl, I am Gordon; I am the eyes and the ears of this jungle. I watch what comes and goes, and I ashore you more go than stay.
Alpha- Wait, are you the Gordon? Master told us stories about you, how you witnessed a lot of deaths of our family. Do you possibly know who is behind all these attacks? The bear just stared at Alpha with distress. Gordon pulled out a picture of a German shepherded. This made Alpha mad. He stood up and got mean clinching his claws on the floor.
Alpha- Where did you get that picture Gordon? Don’t tell me master gave it to you. That was my best friend how do you have a picture of him? Gordon felt bad and he started talking about the problem at hand.
Gordon- Listen guys I am not your enemy, but those wolves and Cole Arnoldson is your enemy. Do you really know why Cole is on the bad guy list, well I will tell you. Long ago when your master was still in his glory days, he met a new person, he is Cole. Well Cole was a big supporter for Muntz did almost everything he could to help with missions. They found all kinds of treasures and shared the winnings equally fifty percent. Well Jonathon, your master’s brother, told him to watch out for Cole because one day he would stab him in the back. Sure enough that time rolled around. Charles found the rare bird of South America and Cole wanted half of the earnings just like all the others. Well your master became greedy and told Cole he was not getting anything. Cole warned your master that he was making a big mistake, but he dismissed him. So, the next day Cole went to the science center where they were keeping the bird skeleton and he brought fabric materials and sprayed it all over the skeleton. So when the scientists went to analyze the samples, it would read negative, therefore marking the skeleton as a fake. This man is responsible for your master’s misfortune and the shame he got leaving the hall of fame.
Alpha- wow, I am shocked by that story Gordon, So Cole is the reason why we were still here after all these years? Master should have told us that, he kept that hidden from us. Now we know who was responsible for wrecking our master’s life.
Riley- that’s not the only thing that is wrecked around here, Dug and Alpha turned and ran to hug Riley. Gordon looked surprised at Riley and made a me remark,
Gordon- So, Riley does your pack know you are out here with these two dogs? I must admit you are on thin ice as it is brother. Riley shook his head no and came and sat down next to the two dogs. He was shaking as he was also shaking from the cold of the rain.
Riley- ok guys, you will not believe what I just went through trying to find shelter, I came to this cave not too far from here and I saw a underground tunnel system. Well I slipped trying to get out of the cave and fell into the tunnels. Imagine my surprise when I get down there, thousands of canine skeletons lie under the ground, and on top of that I found this. Riley held up the translator collar he found in the tunnel system. The two dogs gasped! Gordon looked at the collar and knew who it was.
Gordon- that was poor weeley’s collar I am so ashamed, I really liked that dog. You know I will say this I did see a man planting mines near that twisty rocks location. I could not get a glimpse of him, but I saw the whole thing. Thirty nine dogs died that day and that is what has now been known as Operation Fall Down. Everything started making sense to Dug and Alpha. They are now unfolding the truth one layer at a time.
Alpha- well tomorrow begins our first step in taking down Cole and his wolves. First, we destroy call of the wild. Second, find out who has been evolved with our pack for all this time and bring them to justice. Finally, face Cole and his wolves and remove the evil from these woods once and for all. The group just hung around and chit chatted while Gordon whipped up some dinner. They all were discussing business and how to take down the evil operation.
