Well, this thing was a challenge, I'll tell you! I couldn't figure out how to get the feathers in there for the longest time... Anyway, other than a few nips and tucks here and there, and figuring out some kind of closure for the band in back, this is pretty much done! I just have to find out if the recipient wants the sparklies in the fur. I only had this long pile stuff with the mylar shinies, so I used that, but the strips are really easy to take out, if she wants them gone. I'm thinking a wee bit of gel and a touch of hairspray to style the 'do and she's ready to rock.
The horns are made of that celu-clay stuff: super light and actually pretty strong. Took a couple of coats of paint and three layers of varnish, though. The cool blue on the tips of the fur was because of me.

OMFG Murra--this is splendidly fantastic! I say to leave the sparklies as is, it'll give it more of a little sheen. "Emo" anime hair is just fine, it's kinda what it's like about the face anyway! XD Plus, it gives a bit more of a crest/hair/fur look.
*squeeeee!* So excited, thank you so much, Murra! I know it was Alex that requested them done as a gift to me he and I had discussed a while ago, but you get the praise for taking the patience and creativity to bring them to life! They'll match my tail perfect! <3

Shucks.... I'm all flustered... *chuckles* I'm so glad you like it. I do admit I had some small issues with this that I'm not sure I've entirely solved, but I'm pretty happy with how this came out. >^_^< It's on a two-inch wide heavy elastic band (with the hot glue it doesn't stretch on those parts), and I tried hard to keep any glue off the inside. Any bubbles and drips were cut off. I used as many of your images as I could find, too, so I could come close to matching the fun that is your character's mane.
The only thing I need to know is the circumference of your noggin: could you please measure your head from your forehead to the area just above the back of your neck, all the way around (it won't be much more than 21"- most heads are 20"-23", but I still need to know for sure)? I'm thinking of putting a lighter weight elastic (it's black, the big elastic is dark green and stiffer) in the back, both to give a lighter stretch and to hide the big green base, and I need to know how much stretch or room I have to allow for so I don't make it too tight. I have a small head, and it sits nicely on me- but my face is too broad for this cuteness, so I just look goofy. Danged Native American facial-structure gives me a face wider at the bottom than at the top... *giggles, and tries not to think about the double-chins she's got, too* As you can see from the pix, it's open in the back, so you can simply comb your real hair through and over to make it all seamless.
I wasn't quite able to get the ears to cover the real ones (they sat too low and looked strange), so I compromised with the fuzz- I used it as a way to make your human ears invisible. I'd suggest not wearing any earrings or hardware on your real ears while wearing this, just for comfort reasons. >^_^<
The feathers were fun to use, too: I used two species- Stellar's Jay and Acorn Woodpecker. The Jay feathers were pretty dark, even with the strip of blue on them, and the woodpecker feathers were originally black and white. So I tinted them with acrylic paint and then painted in the lighter blue tips. I wanted to use some gorgeously blue iridescent Mallard wing-flash feathers I had, but they were all pointing in the same direction and there were only three- I needed at least four. Poo. But, feathers are just awesome...

You deserve SO much praise, you seriously do, because I know it was a new technique you were experimenting with and it makes me really happy to know you had a fun time designing and making them as well a sgetting ideas for future making of ears this way with certain other 'sona's like your very own Murra dragon. I think that'd be uber cute! <3 You should try it sometime!
Oh sure thing, it's exactly 21 inches =) I like the sound of that idea to be sure it stays in place comfortably without any issues like sliding off or around.
That's just fine, I could easily pull some of my own hair over my ears to help with the hiding of them and not wear earrings and it'll work I have a really good feeling. No problem!
You know, I just realized you mixed the stellar jay with the acorn woodpecker and that is a very creative mix since they blend in so well together. I cannot get over how fantastic of a job you did with all of it, I cannot WAIT to recieve and put it on when it's completely finished to take pics and show you how it looks on me! ^_^

And I was so happy to find out I could essentially dye the feathers without hurting them (a wash of simple water with a good acrylic paint- swish the feathers in till the colours sets: a few seconds: then let dry. Groom them after). My first attempts didn't work so well., but some of them still looked really cool, so they're in with the rest (the iridescent ones- but they're more stiff). I tried to angle the feathers so they shouldn't brush your shoulders or neck (which would ruin 'em), so I hope this works. I used a heavy wire armature in the horns so they shouldn't move when you get excited, nor will the ears be floppy. It's why I used the wide webbing (it's upholstery elasticized webbing), so things would stay where they should be.
I think I will make a Murrah "hat"- just for the giggles.

Thanks, hon! Yeah, I like some of the anime characters that are supposed to be only part human, and they often have little details like big ears, horns, thick, mane-like hair and so on... So easy to just adapt that into a kind of hat or head-band... Gives a nice suggestion of the other-worldliness of the character.
I bet it would! Cosplay is pretty fun stuff, and it's so nice to finally see it getting popular here. I've been doing crazy stuff like re-creating costumes from movies and stuff since I was a teen, and back then, it was seen as frakkin' WEIRD, especially in my somewhat dull, unimaginative hometown. They so lacked any kind of sense of fun that they called me "Conan's girlfriend" when I showed up to school wearing a fur vest I'd made out of an old sheepskin.
Well, she's certainly taller than me! And skinnier... and much, much darker... and prettier...
Hey, you should go have a gander at this thing- lemme know what you think? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3536899
