Interesting. Vaguely reminiscent of the stories of Greg Howell (e.g. "Light on Shattered Water", "The Human Memoirs") at least in the opening, though I have no way of knowing if you had planned to take the story in a similar or very different direction from those.

Afraid I haven't heard of those, guess I'll have to look them up to see what they were about. When did they come out? Would be somewhat amusing to think if I'd finished it it'd be the other way around, saying his stories were reminiscent of mine instead. :)

They date from the early to mid 1990s. "The Human Memoirs" just recently came out in a paperback edition but it has been available on the net for a long time.

You know, I'd rather like to see you get to finish this one. It's got a good start, I think. In fact, I relate to the character quite a lot. Now, because I do identify with him so much, that could be making me biased.
It could maybe use a little more fleshing out, like some more descriptions of what it was like to be pulled down into the water, then finding out that he could breathe under there. And more about the goddess fox's appearance, and little stuff like that. But it looks good as far as I'm concerned. :)

I'm glad you like it, I started writing it like 15 years ago and got distracted and such because of RL and things. As I hopefully get my muse back I'll go back into it and upgrade it accordingly, especially the foxy goddess.

Very very interesting story, and I love the different ontology you set up here. I look forward to seeing it in its final form!

So do I. I need to work on a better scenes and the ending for it though (I had some quite primitive and unsuitable plots in mind way way back when I started this and need to re-plot things in a more realistic fashion).
