A week after their wedding, Dainah gave Einar some special news. Dainah had told her new husband that she was pregnant. Einar was more than overwhelmed with joy and excitement, for he was going to be a father.
Childbirth in Valinor is a very special occasion. Under normal circumstances, a female animal gives birth nine months after conceiving, but for the hybrids, they give birth after either ten or eleven months. Based on the mixes of both the male and female, the pregnancy takes more time for the hybrids.
After they learn they are with child, the hybrids are visited by Valinors doctors and healers. The mothers in-waiting are given specific diets and herbs to take so that the baby stays healthy. The hybrids are also advised not to constantly drink alcohol for the duration of their pregnancy. The hybrids mainly drink water, milk and juice.
As the belly begin to swell, the female hybrids are advised by their doctors to take daily walks and wear loose clothing so they don't put pressure on the baby. As the baby grows more and more, the females experience symptoms that are normal during pregnancy such as mood swings, temper tantrums, constantly hungry and using the bathroom all the time. They will also feel the baby kicking. After about ten months, the hybrids are advised to stay home and walk around as much as possible.
The doctors also advise the mothers in-waiting that after eight months of carrying the baby, they start reading, signing and talking to the baby. When they are close to the delivery date, the mother is taken to the hospital, where she waits until the baby is born. When they feel their waters break, the doctor takes the hybrid I to a private bedroom to help her give birth to the baby. The father waits outside the bedroom, only able to listen to his wife scream.
After the baby is born, the father is welcomed into the room to join his wife and their child. The doctor then takes fur samples from the parents and baby to compare them and determine what hybrid species the baby is. After a few weeks in the hospital, the mother takes her new baby home.
Einar and Dainah had a daily routine. Every evening when Einar came home from work, he would greet Dainah and they would hold her belly together and Einar would give it a kiss. After learning she was pregnant, Dainah and Einar wrote down a list of names for the baby. After many months, they came up with two. If it was a boy, they would named the baby Kalen and if it was a girl, Deinar.
Einar also focused on prepping the babies room right next to theirs. Dainah would knit little shirts and blankets for the baby and hum while she knitted. Einar made sure that his and Dainahs parents were home with her when possible. He also helped with cooking the food and had a small room prepped downstairs so that Dainah wouldn't have to walk up and down the stairs everyday.
After ten and half months of carrying her baby, Dainah and Einar were both excited. They knew the baby would come any day.
