Michael meets his tutor, Mrs. Sobaka. She's a Hortaya Borzaya, a dog originally bred in Russia. Mrs. Sobaka explains how things are different from when Michael was alive 20,000 years earlier. She knows it'll take close to 4 months before Michael knows enough about "current" societal norms to be released on an unsuspecting humanimal society. She chooses to learn more about Michael first while explaining how humanimals are, genetically, half-human and half-animal, hence the name humanimal.
Meanwhile, a few miles away, Amanda is preparing to leave for work and finds herself confronting a police officer who's been called to the neighborhood to investigate a young woman who's attempting to break into homes.

Thanks but, I do have one story about the humanimal past posted. It's called "Beyond Appearances" if you're interested in reading it. Also, the situation I mentioned about the first humanimal was intended to be a short story before "Beyond Appearances" was written but I never could figure out how to write it properly.
:: Cracks knuckles an' flexes fingers... ::
Okies, here goes!
I reread and took (more) notes on this Chapter, since ya said you weren't feeling pestered by my comments on the previous ones, and enjoyed reading people's thoughts. (By all means, do let me know if I DO become a pest, an' I'll greatly curb my typing!)
Again, world building has always fascinated me, because it can be such a gigantic endeavor all by itself! Add characters and the story/ies, too?
So, a 20,000 year 'Nap' and *VIOLA* young Man is introduced to a new world! (I think I'd just have an instant heart attack, and that would be the end of the story! So boring, I know.)
As I was reading the part with his Tutor, and the history of 'Fursia' and the given Races of Humanimals, I couldn't help but give my Husky a few good ear scritchies, and he thoroughly enjoyed and approves of this part, thus far! (Had to give him his due, otherwise he'll NEVAH leave me alone to read/enjoy your Story!)
I really love how little Anne has taken to Michael so much, so well! Children can be either exceptionally attuned to things, or blissfully ignorant of them, depending. It's nice that being the youngest character so far, she's taken a very positive attitude towards having a Human in her family!
This also drifts a bit back to Michael's advice about cherishing your siblings, 'cause you never know what may happen, and want to keep things on a good note if possible!
The war between Humans and Humanimals, with the ripples still present so many long years later have perked my interest something fierce, and I've seen where you've already replied to others' comments about stories that dive into that a bit more. Dunno if you will or not, but you've certainly got a LOT of things to keep your inner Id going!
I suppose it goes w/o saying that blending of genetics will cause some problems with said 'Races' colouring/physical traits. That's gotta be a tough one in their society. 'People' already have so much BS due to our skin coloring and certain specific physical adaptations to the environments we hail from. Imagining how much more complex that would be with so many varied Races of Humanimals is a huge chunk of thought to ponder!
I loved the resurrection of once-extinct species! While I have serious reservations about it IRL, for a fictional Story that's always cool to present and think about. (Pachyderms anyone?)
NO TAILS?! Ahhhhh, mannnnnn! lol That's really my greatest gripe, but heck, that's my burden to bear! I've always imagined Anthros as having dem tails (If their particular species have 'em, of course).
I'm always nabbing my Doggo's/Catto's caudal appendages, usually while we're snuggled in bed or picnicking/etc., and they've learned to tolerate my fixation on 'em (To a point)!
The rebuilt time and calendar? You're breaking my poor old mind with the change in using 'Military/24 Hour' time having '2400' being 'Dawn' instead of 'Midnight' but again, that's my cross to bear! Seeing them talk about their work/lunch hours always has me pausing, head tilted till I remember/figure it out! lol
Another side note?
The Humanimal society has had 17k+ years going, with what Humans had already accomplished, technology-wise, yet things don't seem to have continued to 'Advance?' I suspect I may be too early to the Story to see this, or it was simply something you didn't delve into? (I'm not griping about it. You've already taken a huge challenge on with what you've shared thus far).
I just pause, and reflect on how insanely fast human technology skyrocketed in such a short period of time. Taking JUST the past two thousand years alone, it's mind boggling what another fifteen thousand years will have?
Humanimal Society-
Aha... The 'Meat-and-Potatoes' of any Anthro Story!
A) I like how they take marriage/child-rearing so seriously. No, I'm hardly a prude, but I WAS raised by one! lol I like it when peeps take their Vows (Marriage, Oaths of Service, Other) seriously.
B) I also like the serious penalties for abuse and rape. I personally take the 'R' word very, very seriously, and in my writings those who commit such crimes never get off easy, if they survive at all.
C) The ongoing prejudice(s) between Humans and Humanimals isn't a surprise, esp. since there are still Humans alive and part of the world. I wonder how this is going to affect Michael, down the road, but can already see hints of what's going on between him and the Humanimals he's now co-existing with. Looking forward to this (And I'm overlapping in my notes, having already read ahead a few Chapters, so will cut off here and save them for their applicable Chapters!)
Anyways, I warned ya I tend to dive in and relish how folks create and share their Tales!
Thanks again!
(Now to join my Husky and fellow sapiens in the small lake, 'cause it's too damned HOT inside!)
Be Well!

Thanks for the in-depth analysis. Believe it or not, I enjoyed reading every word.
I tried to think of how I would react if I had been in stasis for 20K years and then woke up to see a male lion and a tigress staring at me. If you will recall, Michael was scared spitless at the situation. As you read, you'll learn an interesting aspect about my idea for stasis. My idea is that you don't actually stop aging; your aging slows immensely. I believe I had Michael age one second per week. As strange as it may sound, I actually calculated it and Michael only aged by something like 26 days over the course of 20K years. To say I was flabbergasted would be a mild understatement.
If you're interested, I suggest that you go to Google and input all of the family names you see. You'll find an inside joke when you do. (I love putting inside jokes in my stories.) Of course, Leo and Tigresa's family name of Panthera should give you a clue as to what I did.
Ah, Anne. She's my second favorite character in this story. She is the epitome of innocence and likes Michael because he's different from everyone else she's ever met. His friendliness toward her and his readiness to tell her anything she wants to know cements the bond between them. She becomes so attached to him that she gets upset if he doesn't sit next to her when they have dinner.
I believe that most of what I told others about the wars between humans and Humanimals was what's in my head. I've only written one other story related to "There's No Way" and it's a short story titled, "Beyond Appearances". It takes place about 10K years before "There's No Way" and tells the story of a human and a hyena Humanimal who fall in love with one another and eventually marry after having produced a daughter together.
"I suppose it goes w/o saying that blending of genetics will cause some problems with said 'Races' colouring/physical traits. That's gotta be a tough one in their society. 'People' already have so much BS due to our skin coloring and certain specific physical adaptations to the environments we hail from. Imagining how much more complex that would be with so many varied Races of Humanimals is a huge chunk of thought to ponder!" This is one of the reasons I decided to write this story. I'm a southern white male and I'm a staunch anti-racist. I totally despise racism of any kind no matter who's exhibiting it. Later in the story, you'll also see that I'm opposed to any kind of bigotry. Also, I don't know if I've mentioned how the blending of genetics works in this universe but, basically, it works like this. Humanimal DNA doesn't split longitudinally like our DNA does. It splits along genetic sequences. This was because when humans were working on creating the Humanimals, they learned that it wasn't a simple matter of just matching a human DNA strand with an animal DNA strand. The genetic sequences are in different locations in different animal DNA so the humans had to literally slice up the DNA to get it to match human DNA. Therefore, when reproduction occurs, the DNA splits along genetic sequences with both human and Humanimal genetic sequences being used to create the new DNA strands. I know this sounds a bit confusing but it's roughly what I see in my mind.
Ah, the resurrected extinct species aspect. It was a long and arduous decision to go with this idea. So far, I've had thylacines, Caspian (and other extinct species) tigers, dire wolves, and a few other extinct species being recreated as Humanimals. However, some extinct species, such as saber-toothed cats, I decided to leave as ferals due to certain physical aspects that prevented me from using them as anthros.
LOL. Yes, no tails. I'm something of a zoologist and one thing I've learned about tails is that they serve two purposes (three if you count as a fifth hand in monkeys). One is as a way of showing emotion. This is something that a speaking animal can do without the need for a tail. Another is for balance when running on four feet. Since Humanimals are bipedal their inner ear is an exact duplicate of human ears and the tail as a rudder would be totally useless.
As I explained in Michael's schooling, the Humanimals decided that since sunrise is the beginning of the day, it made no sense to them to have the day start in the middle of the night. I also had them use sunrise on the vernal equinox as their beginning of the year. I also chose a Native American calendar method that I had heard on an old television show. Instead of 12 months of a varying number of days, I thought it was much more logical to have 13 months of 28 days with one day left over. This day, as you probably know by now, is a worldwide holiday to celebrate the new year. The 24-hour clock was inspired by the way the military denotes time but I also know that there are countries throughout the world that use a 24-hour clock.
The level of technological advancement was stifled because, for about 10,000 years, there was a mini Ice Age which was more severe than the most recent one that actually occurred which I believe lasted for 100K years. This Ice Age started ending about 7,000 years ago and Humanimal technological advances progressed slowly at first due to interspecies/interracial jealousies that prevented the Humanimals and humans from cooperating with one another until about 3,000 years ago. The Ice Age destroyed almost all of the technology that humans had created so the Humanimals have had to relearn everything that we currently take for granted. The level of technological advancement in the story is from approximately the 1980s through the 2010s.
While Humanimal society isn't ideal, it is more ideal than human society is today. Marriage normally is for life which means approximately 60 years of marriage (Humanimals live as long as humans do today.), although as you'll learn later, divorce isn't unheard of. One of my characters, a polar-grizzly bear mix, was married to an abusive Kodiak bear until her father, a Finnish polar bear, walked in on him beating her and proceeded to show him how it felt. (I loved writing that paragraph.)
All I can say as far as how Michael deals with prejudices against him because of his species is to continue reading. He has a run-in with a super bigot and takes him down a notch, legally.
Please keep reading and please keep giving me your comments. I know there are some chapters which will be kind of slow but I'm hoping that there are others that you will be excited to read.
