8.2 is a general balance changes for 8.1. Here's the change log:
Version 8.2 -- “Swordpoint”
This version is greatly going to focus on more balancing of Apexes, Accessories, and the newly introduced Event cards. I’ll want to try to reduce VP gain slightly for the game overall to hopefully hit more 6-7 turn Gluttony ends, as it’s possible to end the game in four turns at the current setup.
Core Changes
- Now upon getting “stuffed”, you may draw an extra token.
One of the issues of losing your turn is that it always felt like a significant setback. With the mild slowdown of token draws, it won’t be as detrimental, but will still see some form of punishment. Even then, losing your turn feels bad, and so I’ve allowed players to draw an extra token if their first action cannot be performed in any way, so as to alleviate the pain of losing the turn. In some rare instances, this can even be beneficial, saving a kick or getting that last Digestion Token.
- Not implemented yet, but will be converting all instances of “Draw Pile” to “Invite List”
As balancing continues, terminology should finally make the transition from mechanical to more immersive. The Draw Pile will take the name Invite List, making the term Invite useful again, as that is more or less what has happened to the Action.
Apex
Kealldin (ID: 1)
Can no longer get Digestion Tokens on Gorge.
Swiftwing (ID: 3)
Swiftwing in particular was weak this time around, due to the power of Combo tokens not reaching the power of an Action Point. As such, she’s been entirely reworked again, but this time to take advantage of things not usually used.
Can now draw the top card from the Bus Stop once per turn. You still get a Combo Token on Ties, but it can be any Tie. You automatically win ties still.
Serena (ID: 4)
Can no longer swap cards with Accessories, clarified text to ensure player does not swap a card with a Full Guest.
Ember (ID: 5)
Ember is a bit too technical, as per the suggestions, and as such, I’m going back to the drawing board with her to make her both more entertaining and less complicated. What I have come up with may be more complex overall, but potentially far more entertaining to play with.
All Digestion Tokens are converted into VP now. This includes all Full Guests in her Stomach as well, disabling any digestion. She may now Gorge within her stomach.
Ember’s Stomach capacity is now 5.
More complex due to quickly understanding what she needs to do, but overall a great change for her compared to others. She will need to pick up at least six 1 vp cards, each one a pred and a prey, to have three full gorges. If she’s able to do this early, she will generate 5 VP every turn, ending the game swiftly, as well as having the extra 6 VP at the end game. I doubt anyone will push for this particular end game, but Ember is now much more powerful if she can build up, and unstoppable compared to Verak if people leave her alone too long. Note that her complexity comes from having to manage her gorge targets carefully -- Since Digestion is completely disabled in her Stomach, she will need to think about if she wants to risk getting fatter prey from others or not.
Flexier (ID: 6)
No longers get a Gluttony Token from removing overindulgence through Digestion.
Lyssa (ID: 8)
Can no longer get Gluttony Token from Devouring a Feathery Guest.
Providence (ID: 10)
The crow is getting a much needed buff to his abilities, and while they are simpler, they should overhaul how a standard match is played, making people stop and think twice about throwing away Accessories.
Providence now may devour any Accessory that enters the Bus Stop, ignoring Stomach Capacity while doing so. No longer gains VP.
Loses Digestion Token on Devouring an Accessory.
Khalil (ID: 11)
Removed gaining Digestion Tokens on discarding tokens.
Nathaniel (ID: 12)
Now allows Nathaniel to take any token other players discard when he does Kick Out.
Accessories, Guests and Events
When it comes to Event cards, I do find that a lot of people have responded particularly favorably to the mix of negative and positive cards. I find stress does rise every now and then when a string of events favors just one Apex, but I feel that is necessary for the flow of the game. Events provide a little extra random element to the game that can throw a curveball into the general bread and butter strategies that have risen. I will keep observing it throughout this version.
Stash of Party Food (ID: 4, 8) - Reworded the card to ensure clarity.
Party Guide (ID: 28, 32) - Now gives a Digestion Token when your total Speed is 5 or more. Serena is unable to benefit from this card by design.
Luxurious Rugs (ID: 36, 40) - Only extends Lobby by 1 card instead of 2.
Kealldin’s Knapsack (ID: 96) - Scaly Apexes now get a Digestion Token for every Gorge.
Wing Extension (ID: 111) - Changed text to clarify that it requires a Guest with minimum 1 Stomach Capacity.
