Some general notes:
This is ONE character portrayed in each Elfane sub-type. The markings that he has are NOT universal. You can change the markings however you want.
Males have STRIPES, females have SPOTS. Spots AND stripes together can be seen on more androgynous Elfane. These markings are also optional.
The Fire Elfane have very long fur on their entire body and their accent color is red. Their fur may be longer than pictured, but never shorter. The long fur helps to dissipate body heat, keeping them cool. Their skin secretes an oil that coats their fur, making it fire proof. Fire Elfane tend to be stronger in physical combat than other Elfane. Fire Elfane decorate themselves with darker rocks, bones, feathers, coal, wood carved ornaments.
Water Elfane. The fur is very short and covered in oils that make it water proof, much like an otter. Due to the very short fur, the tail looks a lot thinner. This is the shape of all Elfane tails if you were to shave them. Thick base that tapers to a point. The shorter fur on the tail allows the Water Elfane to have better dexterity when using it to hold or manipulate objects. Water Elfane typically keep their hair short or bald. NOTE: Water Elfane do NOT live in water! They live near and around water, and spend time in water, but they don't sleep and feed in the water. They do not have gills and cannot breathe under water. They DO however have webbed toes and fingers. They are faster swimmers than other Elfane, with fit, lithe bodies, but not much mass. Water Elfane decorate themselves with smooth light colored stones, shells, and cool colored gems.
Electric Elfane have a lithe, slender body type. Their fur is of average length compared to the fire and water Elfane. There is nothing special about their fur length or style. The Electric Elfanes eyes glow ALWAYS, unlike the other elements whose eyes only glow when using their magic or feeling strong emotions. Electric Elfane are much faster on their feet than other Elfane and are equally balanced in physical and magical strength. Electric Elfane adorn themselves with only the shiniest of objects.
Ice Elfane have long, thick fur like the fire Elfane. They live near the colder bodies of water, therefore they must have a thick coat to keep them warm. They aren't very physically strong nor very magically strong compared to other Elfane, but that doesn't mean they are weak! Their bodies are more sturdy than the typical Eldane. Ice Elfane tend to be less forgiving than other Elfane in combat, but prefer not to fight to begin with. Ice Elfane adorn themselves with objects similar to the Water Elfane and Electric Elfane.
Elfane of the Air element have short fur like the Water Elfane, but with longer strands at the tips of their ears and tail. They may also have longer fur on their cheeks and limbs if so desired. Their wings are larger than most Elfane. The Air Elfane tend to be more lightweight than other Elfane, and thus can move quicker. They're not the strongest physically and magically, and are much like the Ice Elfane in that they prefer not to fight. The Air Elfane, in fact, almost never fight, and prefer to run away from danger. They only fight enough to get away. They adorn their accessories with anything that is long, smooth and flowing. Ribbons and silk are some of their favorites. Gems also appeal to them.
Earth Elfane are grounded and solid with a strong, sturdy body. They're good at defending and attacking, and their magic is decent too. They're not great at flying, and they tend to be a bit heavier than most other Elfane. They have no special fur traits, just like the Electric Elfane. They exhibit stronger sexual dimorphism than other Elfane, however. The males have wider shoulders, more defined arms. The females have wider hips and a slender waist. They like to wear metals, rocks, bones and Earthy type jewelry.
The Plant Elfane also has no special fur characteristics, like the Earth and Electric Elfane. They are peaceful and prefer not to fight, but will defend their territory and loved ones fiercely. They're both physically and magically strong, and most agile in climbing the trees, but do well on ground as well. They're not great swimmers and tend to stay out of water, though they spend much time near it. Plant Elfane choose flowers, carved wood and gems as their accessories.
Neutral Elfane are ALSO typical as far as fur length and traits go, following the Electric, Earth and Plant Elfane. The Neutral Elfane are as average as it gets. They're moderately strong physically, decent runners and swimmers, their flying could be better, but they completely lack magical abilities. Their strongest traits are their senses, such as hearing and smell, which tends to be stronger than those of the other Elfane. They will adorn themselves with anything shiny or smooth.
Additional Elfane notes I didn't add above:
Their sclera is colored. The color of the sclera depends on their iris color. The pupils are always either black, or a very dark shade of their iris color. Pupils are slit like a feline in bright light.
Females only develop breasts during pregnancy and will mostly fade once breast feeding ends.
The Elfane are always digitigrade and are small. The tallest Elfane would be about 5'5". That would be considered "quite tall" to them. "Quite short" would be around 3.5". Anything inbetween is accepted as "normal".
Mating between two different Elements results in a Neutral Elfane. There are NO mixed Element Elfane.
Colors may change slightly, as long as it's clear what color you're going for. Which means you can have a lighter or darker blue for your Water Elfane, as long as it's not too close to an Ice or Air Elfane.

I used to have a comic planned, along with many more species(the Elfane being my main focus) but I really don't have the patience and story telling skills to actually si down and make a comic, so I think I'm just making them for fun or something. }:I I have no idea to be honest lol
As for the Neutral Elfane creating Elemental, I think I decided something like Nn for their genotype. 'N' is neutral and 'n' is Elemental.
So, if a pure Fire Elfane(nn) mated with another Pure Fire Elfane(nn), they'd always breed a Pure Fire Elfane.
If a pure Fire Elfane and a Neutral Elfane(NN) that carried the Fire gene(Nn), they'd only breed a Neutral Elfane, however, there's a 50% change(if I'm doing this correctly, lol) that their offspring could carry the Fire Elfane gene.
Now, if two Neutrals that both carried the recessive Fire gene were to mate, both bring Nn, there's a 50% chance of having a Neutral-fire child, 25% chance of having a pure fire, and 25% chance of a pure neutral.
@_@

Nope. The only mandatory markings are:
Black tail with elemental coordinating tip.
Neutral colors for base fur with accent colors coordinating with elemental color.
Natural eye and flesh colors, unless it coordinates with element color(such as light purple for nose, pawpads or eyes for the air element)
"Natural" is defined as colors seen in humans or mammals. No parakeet Elfane plz.
Halos are always white/yellow/gold/whatever. No black or silver or anything like that.
Aaaaaaaaand, I believe that's it. :3

Oh, and the wings are mandatory. The color is not, but the wings are physically always there. I am pretty sure you're just asking about the color, but I want to make it clear to anyone else who is reading.
Also, in case anyone is remembering what I had before, there is no longer a difference between virgin and non-virgin Elfane, so wing color has no significance.

Elfane can have a variety of markings. They can have patterns(tigers or cheetahs) or can be fairly plain(think a fox's markings).
Females are either spotted, or spotted AND striped.
Males are either striped, or striped AND spotted.
There are no males with just spots, and no females with just stripes.
The base fur color can be ANY color that you'd see on a natural mammal. Orange, brown, tan, cream, yellow(not like, banana yellow), etc. Black and gray are just my favorite base colors.
Yes, the tail is the only thing that is colored exactly the same on all Elfane. It MUST be black with an element colored tip.
The tip of the tail is the only un-natural color their fur is allowed to have. So, you can have a brown Elfane with a green tail tip, and their markings can be black, brown, tan, orange, green, etc, but they can't have blue, since that's not their element and it's an un-natural color.

So just cuz i'm curious, can you list the subtypes in order of magical strength?
I gather that plant Elfane are the strongest, magically, and neutral are obviously the weakest. magically, but how do the others line up?
I want to use a more magic based subtype for my elfane, but dun want a plant, despite my innate love of green X3 And I will be sure to run him/her by you before i post him/her ^^

Cool ^^ That definitely helps me narrow down my choices for what element i want my character to be X3
Two more things actually
First, Can the elfane still change the size of their wings or are they always that size?(excepting the larger wings on Air Elfane)
Secondly,I think this was in a journal once,(can't find it) but is there any sort of naming rules or traditions?

I've decided that they're wings do not change in size other than while growing up. Children obviously will have smaller, less developed wings, but adults cannot hide or make their wings smaller.
No naming rules. The traditions I haven't solidified yet :< They're still a WIP as far as backgrounds go.

Yeah, you're free to make one of your own as long as you check with me before you call it final and give me credit. :3

Well, the white part is still there... It's just a different color. And the color is lighter than the iris. So a character with bright red eyes would have light red/pink sclera.
