Kanda (short for Kanada) is a mysterious dog that arrived in Greenville where it is now a pet 'chimera' to Marko in Henkei. The mystery surrounding Kanda reveals that he is a supernatural otherworldly being that came to Greenville in an unknown time, where he said to have a purpose but does not remember what it is.
Personality:
Despite being a dog (in which he isn't able to speak), he is able to telepathically communicate with anyone if he wants to. His dialogue and conversations with Marko implies that he is quite intelligent about the origin of the universe and can handle situations by manipulating people's minds. He is also quite enigmatic and would incoherently answer questions about his origins and true form.
When he first arrive in Greenville, he was quite monstrous and ruthless, attempting to kill anyone, including Robyn and Shiramori. He then became 'tamed' after spending time with Marko, whom he has grown protective over. Possibly due to inheriting the body of a dog.
Despite showing dominance towards humans with his abilities, he is mostly treated as a dog. He lacks common sense due to being a creature from a different dimension (or universe) and has a hard time reading emotions.
Abilities:
Ability to shapeshift
Upon extracting him, Marko learns that Kanda has shapefshifting abilities. By simulating and absorbing other cells, Kanda can posses all sorts of abilities from any organic life form. By 'breaking the laws of physics', he can take another form without any consequential effects to his organs (if he does have any), can turn several parts of his body into different body parts such as a mouth on his back where his spine should be hiding and can possess abilities different animals have; crawling on walls and ceilings, shooting slime that could either solidify or melt and even capable of laying eggs.
Manipulating biological organisms
Kanda is shown to transfer his cells into other living beings, in which he can either take over their body and minds or can simply turn them into a creature like him. He is also able transfer himself into any living creature whenever his body becomes weak, allowing him to gain access to their memories as well as changing their bodies into his true form.
Possessing telepathy
Kanda uses telepathy to communicate whenever he is in a body of a dog. His telepathic abilities extends that he is able to mind control people or even take over their bodies. However, he is only able to do so if he transfers small amount of cells by physical contact and he is only able to posses a living being for a short period of time.
Occupation:
While no ones knows what his supposed intentions are (including himself) when he came to Greenville (or even any location on earth and in different time periods), Marko speculates that Kanda might have planned on world domination, which Kanda deemed close to his supposed intention but too overboard. When asked how, Marko assumed that since he arrives in a form of an injured stray dog, he could've fooled humans into letting him into their place of information about the human body and might have disguise himself as a person. Kanda did stated that this would likely to happen, if this was indeed his supposed plan.
Kanda now currently resides in Henkei disguised as a dog and is 'adopted' by Marko. He is often forced to aid her in investigations as a detection dog.
Backstory (Spoilers):
Kanda claims he is an other worldly entity from another dimension, he is the youngest of his brethren and could've 'tainted' the any planet with lifeforms if he wants to. This however, is a lie, as pointed by Gregalias.
His real origins is that he is created from a secret facility in another world. The facility (implied to have been corrupted by Oshoku and Eris) created him under the orders of an 'organization from hell' as part of their 'Seven Deadly Sins Project'. However, Kanda was not treated well by the scientists in the facility. This lead to him killing the scientist and escaping the facility. He almost attempted to corrupted the world he is in but is stopped by Gregalias, who proceeded to 'exterminate him'. Kanda transferred his cells onto a nearby stray dog and ended up in another world.
Due to his cells are not enough to take over, Kanda now in a body of a dog suffers from memory problems and is in poor condition. He was found ill on the edge of a river by locals in Greenville and is taken to the vet where Marko works. Unable to stay in the form of a dog forever, Kanda attempted to return to his true form, but is unable to due to his lack of cells. He is caught by Shiramori and Robyn mid-transformation and attempted to kill them from witnessing his true self. He was stopped again in the nick of time by Gregalias and his powers are sealed of by him.
He was than extracted by Marko herself who concluded that he is an alien and adopted him as a dog and named him 'Kanada Theodore Phillips', named after her favorite novels authors, philosophers and alchemists. Kanda says that he does in fact have a name, but it is unpronounceable or even cannot be spelled in any language.
Kanda concluded to Marko that he is in fact an eldritch abomination. He also states that his true form is that of a massive unknown being and that the parts of his supposed true form are merely fragments of his alternative forms. He claims to be a creature from a different dimension where he either destroys or creates worlds, or likely replace it's inhabitants. He also states that there are likely multiple cults who praise or follow him, but is unsure if that is true since he is merely a minor being than his 'brethren'. Upon asking his arrival on Greenville, he stated he was sent there for a purpose, but cannot remember what it is or why, or even know who sent him.
Relationships:
Marko Cornelius Kelly
At first, Kanda is fearful towards Marko, as she was the one who 'dissected' him to figure out what he is. After discovering and assuming that he is some sort of alien (in which Marko refers to as a lovecraftian deity), he was taken in by Marko as a pet 'chimera', due to his ability of shapeshift and can or even possible have multiple body parts that of different animals.
Kanda is quite irritated at Marko due to her treating him like a dog instead of a feared other worldly deity he is. He then warms up to her to even pledging allegiance to her (which she confused as a marriage proposal given by the fact that he is from another dimension and this is likely their way of swearing loyalty). He admits to Robyn that he agrees on helping Marko during investigations is just to spent time with her.
Marko was the one who gave 'Kanda' his name, and is named after several alchemist she knows and books she read.
Robyn Greenwood
Robyn is one of the few people whom Kanda communicate telepathically and is the only person who knows parts of Kanda's origins than Marko. Kanda entrusts in Robyn to hide information he cannot give to Marko, to which Robyn confuses him having feelings for her.
Shou Takahara
Kanda is shown to dislike Shou, as Shou is the one who told Marko to rid off Kanda to which she refuse and instead took him in as a pet. Shou does find Kanda useful in investigations, but commented on how his werewolf boyfriend, Anthony could've have this job if he had a role at the agency.
Gregalias
Gregalias was the one who prevented Kanda going on a rampage and almost killed Robyn and Shiramori. Gregalias is fully aware of what Kanda actually is, and is the only one who knows what his supposed plans are, including the reason and the person to 'sent' him, but he refused to tell more details, as a mere mention could trigger Kanda back to his supposed self and continue with his plans. Kanda remarks how Gregalias is able to stop him completely just by a single hand motion and rendering him in great pain and reverts him back into his dog form.
Kanda stated he has a sense of familiarity with Gregalias after this and that the two might have known each other personally.
Gregalias later taught Kanda the rules within Henkei and how confrontation is handled through the use of spell card duels and battles, to which Kanda takes a slight interest in participating in.
Oshoku Sasayaki
Although, he lacks his memories, he senses a great familiarity to Oshoku and is downright petrified of her presence.
