"When I was young, my vinyl 45's were everything; I would regularly alphabetize them in my room...THIS room, in Davison, Michigan in the early 80s" -Croc
It was a really awesome experience to sit down with my friend Croc, at his current place, while he was describing me by memory how was his room when he was a kid while I was sketching it (not this final result, I did a very different rough sketch). It was a really nice experience to listen him, and also to read him when he remembered something else and he also sent me many references.
"I really wish I had a photo of my real room, mostly so you could see how closely you've come to it without ever really seeing much of the room at all" -Croc
Some of these vinyls are based on actual 45 record sleeves. Can you recognize any?

Who the heck remembers or even still listens to "Pac Man fever" or play with Merlin?
PAco, I didn't know you were old enough to replicate correctly the 2600 (and a game that might be pitfall or frogger?) or the actual 45rpm covers of the time. That RC tank on the shelf looks also very familiar :P
Great reconstruction work! It could have been a friend's bedroom.

Okay, I love this pic mainly because this would be exactly what my room would have looked like back then! I had most of those 45s pictured there, I've constantly laid them out on the floor just like that, I collected Mad Magazine, I owned a Merlin electronic game, I watched MTV religiously, and my Atari 2600 was always plugged into my TV. The only difference is that I was more into baseball at that age instead of football, so my room wouldn't have had a Michigan State poster on the wall. Although I can't recognize ALL of the 45s on the floor, but I can take a stab at the ones I do know:
Going from left to right in the upper row, I'm a little confused at the first one, so I'll skip that for now. Going on from there, we have Steve Miller Band: Abracadabra, The Human League: Don't You Want Me, Paul McCartney & Wings: Give Ireland Back to the Irish, M: Pop Musik, Men At Work: It's A Mistake, The Knack: My Sharona, (I'm drawing a blank on that next one), Billy Squier: The Stroke, Billy Joel: You May Be Right, Duran Duran: Hungry Like The Wolf, Blondie: The Tide Is High, Michael Jackson: Billie Jean, Buckner & Garcia: Pac-Man Fever, Blondie: Call Me, (then you have a plain Island Records label, which I'm going to guess is B52s or U2, since they were a couple of the most popular 80s bands on that label. Might be a Bob Marley single for all I know, too LOL...anyway), next to that mystery, we have Olivia Newton-John: Xanadu, (now there are a ton of great Columbia artists from the 80s, so that could be anybody, but I'll take a guess at the layout of the tiny font and say Men At Work: Who Can It Be Now, and then those last two are really eluding me. I've seen them before, but my brain just won't place them with the artists/songs.
So, how did I do in recognizing the 45s? hehe
