I stopped using the main client and Windlight since a few furs convinced me to use Emerald. Mind you the actual buttons themselves haven't changed much, but there's lots of more options available in the menus. Heh, I love the thought of a Cobalt going around through time and space sexing up various lonely people to improve their lives and inspire them to do something with their lives.

Heh, yeah. I've switched to emerald too. I only load the 2.0 client up to poke at. You can't do any actual building in it, it's just too screwed up.

Fingers crossed for an emerald 2.0 with all the new features, and the old interface.

I'm totally confused then since I've been building with the new version, what exactly is screwed up with it?

Things that used to take one click now take four or five. The removal of the File, Edit and View menus breaks basic interface design rules, the amount of screen space wasted by the new UI is pretty heavy, too. Having a huge klunky "drawer" that shoves your screen aside any time it's open, and ends up filling almost half the screen, versus the old version with a few small buttons at the bottom of the screen to pop up small, resizable windows? Just one bad design choice after another.

It feels cheap and outdated, compared to the previous versions, too. Moving from the current version to 2.0 feels like moving from Windows XP back to windows 95.

Oh, I had just downloaded a new version they released and I had assumed it was the same one you're referring to but I found out I'm using ver 1.23. Still, what do you expect for it being free and in beta?

I don't expect much from Linden Labs anymore.

I hope the emerald version happens soon.

It's a beta. Yoy can DL it from the website, but be warned - the interface on it is crap. It was aparrently designed by someone who has never used SL, and thought it should be more like facebook.

The rendering looks great though. The shot of your face looks really smooth, more like it was from a dedicated 3D application than from SL.

Yep. There are some great features in 2.0 - if the interface wasn't such a wreck then Linden labs would probably be getting some serious PR boost off of it. Instead it comes off as just another Linden-Brand failure.

I'm waiting for the emerald guys to put their version of it out. Their devs hate the new interface, and are likely to keep the old one in place.
