A short tidbit by
featuring Lacost, Seaton, and Jexith!

“Hurry up, Seaton!” Jexith called behind him. “Lacost is probably waiting on us.” He stopped and turned around, waiting for the other Leothaun to catch up to him. He was practically bouncing on his feet, eager and ready to get going.
“You’re the treasure hunter…I wanted to finish breakfast- urp.” Another Water type Leothaun, Seaton, was trudging behind. “I’m gonna puke if you keep making me run.”
“Sorry…I’m just really exited!” Jexith laughed. “We’ll walk to the pier, how about that.”
“Agreed.”
The two Water Leothauns walked along the beach, closer to one of the local towns. That was where the submersible was; the one they’d taken the first time they met their colleague, Lacost. Lacost couldn’t come up to shallow water for too long, so they had to use it this time as well. He was an anomaly, being specifically evolved for deep water; but then again, Qualdralis was huge, and there were probably sub-sub species hiding in places no one would have ever thought of. Like those Obsidian types, who could swim in lava; what the actual hell.
“There you are.” A head appeared above the water near the pier. “I was beginning to think you wouldn’t ssssshow up.” This one was dark and had nearly white eyes, and…looked rather frightening, really. Lacost!
“Sorry, sorry. It’s my fault,” Seaton huffed. “We’ll get in. What’s the surprise?”
Jexith was already climbing into the sub.
“I found ssssomething really deep…looked like a temple, but- dare I sssssay -a Light temple.” Lacost grinned with sharp teeth. “Don’t get your hopessss up too fassst. It’sss jussst my theory.”
Seaton’s ears went forward. A Light temple? That was impossible; in the deep ocean? How would it have sunk so deep? Unless it was built low and a glacial melt hit it particularly hard, but…what? How? That could be the find of the century if it was real.
Seaton scrambled into the sub as well.
“We’ll follow you, Laco!” Seaton exclaimed. Lacost gave them a nod under the water and dove. They followed, discussing what this could mean and if it was real. What a find! Even if it wasn’t a Light temple, just a sunken set of ruins would be amazing.
They were diving for over an hour, and the light went away in only minutes. Lacost was fast, and the sub was able to keep up. He led them with his bioluminescence and the sub’s lights, down to the bottom of the ocean.
When they saw the bottom of a rocky trench, Lacost went to the side instead of down, into an enormous sea cave, and up…until they hit air.
“Hidden,” he told them. “Followed prey insssside thissss cave.”
Seaton and Jexith got out of their sub and stood on the damp rock. “This would have been built in a cave before a split made that trench,” Seaton said.
“Smart and stable place for a temple, if it hadn’t flooded so long ago…” Jexith said. The thought of finding bodies suddenly hit him, and he paled. “I hope no one drowned.”
“Doubt it. It looked like it wassss abandoned in a hurry,” Lacost said. “Let’ssss go inssside. I only ssssaw the firsssst room.”
“Pretty small for a temple in general too,” Jexith mused. “I’ve seen a lot of em, even Old World ones. And this is small.”
“Jusssssst the main room, and one other chamber,” Lacost confirmed.
“It HAS to be to hide a treasure,” Seaton said to them. “I mean, we still do that today.”
“But in a hidden cave?” Jexith shrugged.
“You’ll find out fasssster if you jussst go in!” Lacost huffed. No more talking.
Right, right.
The three went into the first room. It definitely did look abandoned in a hurry. Rotting wooden furniture was tipped over, there was old gross looking food remnants undisturbed all over the floor, metal decorations and statues rusted over and laying on their sides. Like everyone just left in a hurry without any intention of coming back.
It was...well, spooky.
“I don’t like this,” Seaton said. Jexith nodded.
“But we came all thissss way. Let’ssss check out the ssssmaller room.”
He offered to go first; he was used to the dark after all, so why not? There was no chance of anything being alive down here, not with how well it was hidden.
The trio went to the back of the main room, and into the smaller room. Jexith held their light, and Lacost led the way, followed by Seaton.
In the room there was a stone box sitting in the middle, and a shelf of pottery in the back corner. It was a pretty small room, pretty cozy- the boys could even feel each other’s body heat in here. It was hardly a grand library or treasure room. Whatever was valuable in here was going to be in that stone box.
“What issssss it?” Lacost hissed.
“It’s...a sarcophagus, I think,” Seaton said. “I’ve seen them in underwater temples before but, this room is dry...”
“It’s...it’s small, though.” Jexith winced. He didn’t want to see the body of a child today.
“Look. Offering jars,” Seaton said. He shone the light on a plethora of pots and jars in the corner. “Let’s check those out first.”
Seaton went over to the shelves and took one of the jars down. He took the lid off, expecting a blast of disgusting stink of rotten meat. But instead, it just looked...full.
“Look,” he said to the two. “Ever seen anything like this?” He tilted the jar towards them, and whatever was inside tilted towards them.
It was like jelly almost, but not as thick. It looked colloidal, like tree sap.
“Something in here...I guess I’ll reach in?” Seaton looked to his partners for validation. Jexith shrugged and Lacost nodded eagerly.
Seaton reached into the goo and felt around, then pulled something out. The goo fell off rather cleanly, leaving the object behind exactly as it was put in. It was...
“A loaf of bread?” Seaton asked. “It’s completely fresh. I can even squeeze it!”
“It’s like it was baked yesterday!” Jexith gawked. “Could someone have left it here?”
“No, it wassss completely undisssssturbed,” Lacost insisted. “No one hassss been here ssssince they left.”
“What’s in the other jars?” Jexith asked.
They got to work and examined all the jars. Some were standard; fruit, meat, breads, even candy. All fresh, like it had just been made. Seaton, against all better judgement, even tried a piece of meat. It tasted just fine. Whatever the hell the goo was, it was...preserving it somehow. Perfectly, over thousands of years.
Besides food, some of the jars had toys, hair decorations, and accessories. All meant for a small child. They made sure to keep those treasures, they seemed important.
And then...it was time for the sarcophagus.
Seaton volunteered to open it. They all secretly hoped it would be empty, but they had an idea of what might be inside.
With a heave, they shoved the top off, and Seaton peered down.
It was filled with the same preserving goo as the offering jars.
“Something’s in there, though.” Seaton looked at the other two. “Should I?”
“I...I guess?” Jexith said back. They might as well finish what they started.
Seaton nodded and reached in with both hands, felt around...and pulled something out. As before, the goo just fell back into the box, leaving whatever was in it dry and fresh.
It was a baby.
A white male cub with a tuft of blonde hair at the top of his small head, and similarly blonde colored tunes dyed into his fur all over. Everywhere. There was a slit on his forehead as well, like...like he had a third eye, almost. And upon closer examination, the little one had three tails.
Seaton’s hands shook. The baby was breathing.
“I...I don’t know what we just found, but...” he said, “but I think it might be the most important thing to ever happen to Qualdralis in the New World.”
He looked at the other two, similarly with jaws agape.
“Okay. Let’s...let’s go see Idai and Soana,” Jexith said. Seaton nodded, tucking the cub tightly against himself to carry it.
This was beyond any of them.
