Zowie Holdaway was born in Yankton, South Dakota to an acclaimed local broadcaster at WNAX and a conservation technician at the nearby Lewis and Clark Recreation Area. The black-footed ferret and her family lived there for the first six years of her life, but it wasn’t long before opportunities presented themselves elsewhere. The Holdaway family soon set their sights westward when Zowie’s father, Wyatt, became an investigative journalist for The Salt Lake Tribune. Soon thereafter, Wyatt Holdaway, his wife and two children uprooted their lives and resettled in suburban Salt Lake City, Utah. In short order, Zowie’s mother herself found employment as a park ranger for Wasatch Mountain State Park an hour from home.

From an early age, Zowie was always very close with her father who steadily became of a focal point as an esteemed reporter. Mr. Holdaway and his daughter bonded over sports and other physical pursuits while Mrs. Holdaway inspired a love for nature in her two children. Over time, his interest turned toward a peculiar parcel of land about three hours away outside Fort Duchesne. This intrigue specifically centered on activity in and around the fabled plot of land known to paranormal devotees as the infamous Skinwalker Ranch. Of course, most his research was conducted in private so as not to rouse suspicion from those who’d write off his findings as fanciful and absurd.

Everything came to a head when celebrated journalist Wyatt Holdaway vanished without a trace when Zowie was ten years old. Local authorities later discovered the man’s pick-up stripped of all personal effects and abandoned near the shores of the Uinta River with nary a sign of the father of two. In the wake of her father’s disappearance, a bereaved Zowie Holdaway began to regularly act out in school and became a bothersome delinquent at home, as well. The girl eventually stumbled upon the research material her father had gathered on Skinwalker Ranch, but one such artifact in this collection left an enduring on her life. One night, the object in question ostensibly imbued within her an unknowable energy that considerably enhanced her athletic capabilities.

Driven by an ardent desire to know what happened to her father and invigorated with this newfound vitality, Zowie’s interest in the supernatural took root. By the time she was twelve, Zowie caught the eye of Marie Romero, a licensed monster hunter, who observed Zowie’s acumen, athletic prowess, and enthusiasm for the paranormal while out on assignment from the hunting lodge in Provo. Through Romero’s endorsement, Zowie was enrolled into the prestigious Perihelion Academy in Des Moines, Iowa, where she matriculated into hunting society from civilian life. During those formative years, the ferret was infused with a mysterious substance known as the Water of Acheron which further augmented her skills and gifted the young girl with superspeed. Upon graduation, Zowie was integrated into Hadeanstar—a paramilitary outfit comprised of preeminent young monster hunters with supernaturall enhanced attributes.

With these invaluable resources at her disposal, Zowie hopes to one day learn the truth of what happened to her father and gain some semblance of closure.
