From our spontateous trip to Karelia during New Year's holidays
We walked in and around Sortavala town and up to Kuhavuori hill in Vakkosalmi park, granite rock that rises above surroundings. Below that hill there was "singing field", where singers contests were held in 1896 to 1935, and also famous operas were staged there.
Traveling to this part of Karelia leaving very mixed feelings, considering history of these lands, before and after WWII.
