Last year's Swancon Masquerade - some excellent costumes, including Purrdence's Cat Nun; Gilligan's Cthulhu ( much humour there, with Cthulhu hugging small children; and resting his tentacles on well-filled steel corsetry ); an assortment of Endless; an AMAZING set of full J'far Horus armour complete with servos in the beak and 'ears'; Paul Kidd's rather stylish Kirin; a superb M'ress from the Star Trek animated series; Mel's excellent Magenta, complete with "laser of pure antimatter" ; and similarly ideal for the Geek Sing-along, a Doctor Horrible.
So with all this competition I was pretty sure my own modest effort didn't have a chance, so I'd wandered off and thus missed the announcement I'd actually won second place.
For this.
Perhaps the judges were impressed by the way they found me sprawled comatose across their couch when they came back. It certainly fit the con theme of "First Contact".
I did get a few "Ah. Who else but Drhoz would come wearing a facehugger?" when I arrived :D
First place went to Tamara's "The Demon Pain" complete with exploded ribcage, bloody skull, carnivorous abdomen and trail of internal organs. *thumbs up*

construction simple enough - flesh-coloured felt, shoulder pads, stuffing, doweling, and flesh coloured Velcro so the tail could be wrapped tight around the throat
