This piece is about some of the odd people I've known, especially one named "Red" Myre... who thought wrestling was a serious sport and thereby inspired this article. It's also about wrestling and politics and having a cheap laugh or two.

Oh god, so much of my childhood was spent watching WWF and NWA and the scattered few local promotions on TV.
In fact, though my (now ex) wife was seven years older than me, the only area we displayed much of a generation gap in WAS in regards to pro-wrestling. She remembered getting to go to the Dallas Sportatorium on weekends to watch one of the various Von Erich wrestle the Freebirds. By the time I was old enough to be a wrestling fan (6 or 7 or so), most of the Von Erichs were either dead or retired, and the Freebirds hardly made any appearances. Me, I was a Hulk Hogan and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka fan, and I said my prayers and ate my vitamins like the HUlkster said so I could grow up to me big and strong.
I did actually try out for the WWF once, or at least the closest I'd ever get:

I have a friend with a philosophy on Pro Wrestling...
WWF (WWE) is entertainment.
WCW was real.
I'll watch it for the interviews (I miss Mean Gene Okerlund) and the soap opera antics outside the squared circle. Better entertainment value than most of those reality shows.
