The characters themselves are called the Maxohlx. They are an extremely advanced alien species that has been active in the galaxy for over 200,000 years.

Imagine a scene of an office on top of the biggest skyscraper in an advanced city-wide planet. In the office, there is an authority figure, think of a planetary governor or admiral, someone with the highest rank above all. This Maxohlx leader is standing in complete shock because... Well, imagine if you were the leader of an aggressive apex-species in a galaxy, and in your office in the middle of an important meeting some random silver cylinder pops into existence. This silver cylinder is just floating there, without a care in the world, and it just starts talking to you in a very condescending tone.
The thing is, nothing should be able to infiltrate the planet and especially your office, but clearly this thing has. You're in complete shock, because this thing says it's an Elder AI with powers beyond the Maxohlx, and it needs help because every biological being is going to be exterminated soon.
Let's just say weapons were pulled, security was called, and the meeting went downwards after that.
