I mean, it's not like it wasn't hinted at several times throughout the game. It's just the character Simon forgetting that copying is not transferring. I wholly enjoyed that aspect though, in a morbid way. That hopefulness that gives you tunnel vision to the uncomfortable truth
This was a weird part of the game for me, actually. Me the player figured out what was up way early on, and being the transhumanist I am I was totally cool with it. So watching Simon refuse to see, and then loose his shit over it later... Man, I have never wanted to reach into a game and talk with the viewpoint character that strongly before. XD
I like that in this drawing you can see Simon still has his arm. I soared the WAU as well, si ce it was just doing g everything it could to keep some legacy of humanity alive. Launching the Ark and also having g people living on in WAU's simulated reality doubled the population, as far as I was concerned.
Jesus. I found that game to be REALLY fucking sad and depressing. Because if i remember right, EVERYTHING on the planet was fucking dead. Minus the sea life and that nanomachine, parasite, plant thing, that was everywhere you went. Oh!, and also those bloody scary mutants you ran into now and again.
