The green box you see is a telephone junction box they stand about two and a half feet or three quarters of a meter tall. Where this is is normally about a foot and a half or half a meter above lake level. Meaning the lake is better than three feet or a meter above normal.
This is at Egg Lake, it is connected to Sportsman's Lake by a marsh when we have high water levels like this. Right now you can paddle and poll from the west side of Egg Lake the mile and a quarter to the boat launch on the east side of Sportsman's Lake. Sportsman's Lake looks to be almost five feet above normal at it's outlet that runs under Roche Harbor Road.
Last night it was raining so hard it sounded like one long roar... how long did it last? I don't know I fell asleep to the rumbling on my roof... it was nice it reminded me of my time fishing commercially in Southeast Alaska with Dad. Sage had to lay on the bed so she was touching me, so she felt safe.

I have heard it rain in a constant roar a couple times up here in the hills above Pasadena, but it lasted only a few minutes. I like the image you described of Sage curled up next to you during the storm though, and I mus confess of all the sound effects on the "Noise Box" I use to help me fall asleep, I use "Rain" the most. (Too bad they don't make such noise boxes with Engine Room sounds.)
Right. The noise box I have just cuts out with every sound effect if set for an hour. It doesn't gradually taper off like natural rain does. One effect the device has is "White Noise" which with a little imagination can sound like a Ship's turbines running at full speed. Of course there's the opposite effect of inducing sleep, for when that sound effect ends, I wake up instantly.
See? This is why I live more than 490 feet (150 meters) above sea level. The nearest lake is a mile away and the brook is 60 feet down the hill.

I'm at about 260 feet above mean sea level so I don't worry about flooding. But that doesn't mean we don't have a stream trickling down the driveway in heavy rain.
Sage is a sweetie pie but she is also weird at time... if the wind is blowing just right she gets antsy in the house and will want outside. Never mind the fact it's blowing 30 40 miles an hour and the trees are making a whole lot of clattering and banging as they run into each other

We had Sky and Tundra groomed to keep both of the happy they were groomed at the same time, they were okay with that. Then they were put in two separate drier boxes... they both were making a fuss, the owner who has Malamutes said she had never heard a mal make that kind of noise. She said it sounded like someone was trying to kill them from the noise they were making. So they put them in the same drier box and everything was fine.
Till we came to pick them up... the grooming area came alive malamute howls and squealed. They were still a bit damp when we picked them up. They looked so good, they were clean and fluffy. They were walking, talking, plush toys let me tell you. That evening when we got home they wanted to snuggle with us.
