I don't think Jedi own the patent on lightsabers.
Sith use them, we've seen reg'lar folk can use em and i'm sure any force-sensitive who's badass enough can just go get them a kyber crystal and build one. The white one may be a more common mineral like kyber quartz or something :) i'm okay on SW, but lightsabers and lightsaber combat was what i was super into :D so your theory fits perfectly :)

never said jedi exclusively had "patents" or anything of the sorts. but jedi and sith basiclly invented lazer swords in a way do to little background given by george lucas when he first made the first 2 trilogies not to mention the game universe as kights of the old republic and so on. i mean jedi, sith and ex-jedi/force weilders are the only people you mosty see building them and explaining them in a way they seem to understand. star wars shows like clone wars, rebles and even perhaps resistance
