Sactrein the door opener
What a terrifying thing is must appear to some, the act of expression and creation. For there are those of us who believe the very thing in itself can only come so naturally to few.
Art and expression...are not things that come naturally to any one soul, for they are not natural at all. Were it to all come naturally, how would any one of us come to enrich ourselves in this world and improve?
...On the contrary, artistic creation is a deeply unnatural act, and in many ways one of the most controversial choices one can make in their lives. It is not derived from talent and hearsay but from inner observation and constructive confrontation.
That is all to say the only difference between you and I is our fear of what we see, what we have to say, and what we are willing to sacrifice to share these internal secrets be it time or patience. It is natural to fear, and even more so to restrain our vision with logic and dismissals.
" I'm not imaginative at all! " " It would not make for good commerce! " " What good is it to society? "
It is unnatural to relinquish the ego, to let go of time, to revel in the creative process. It is terrifying to realize all the joy is in our expression, not our impression. So some choose to close these doors and pretend they never existed at all.
But things have a way of finding these doors. Things as Sactrien who will wander by you eventually. And they will rap upon you door again and again throughout your life until you acknowledge its presence. This is not a threat but a truth.
Your doors were meant to be open, not closed. To do so otherwise...why...that's the most unnatural thing of all, isn't it?

This drawing is very haunting. Yet the description that comes with it is possibly even more so. Its concise, poignant, and most frighting of all truthful.
For me fear has always had a place beside me in art. Fear of failure, fear of being unable to realize my ideas, fear of being judged for what I make or enjoy, and the fear that I simply don't have the means to communicate my thoughts or feelings in a way that can be properly understood.
It often feels safer to do nothing, to say nothing, in order to avoid pain then it is to take the chance to feel anything else.
Yet there is a point where safety simply becomes misery.
If you think about it most things humans create are 'unnatural'. Natural is trees, animals, touched landscapes, and skylines un-mired by obstructions. Yet just because something is unnatural doesn't mean its wrong or bad. If anything the most beautiful, wonderful things in the world as the things that we've simply invented. And some of the most crushing, horrid things in the world are entirely natural.
So many things do not exist in nature. They were birthed from our minds and can only exist if we make them a reality.
Art and fantasy, however unnatural they might be deemed, are precious. For it is the unnatural things that make humans more then what they appear to be.
