Act III: Trouble.
Chapter 10: Britney’s Stand.
The two dogs and the grey wolf sat around the blazing hot fire. The storm was still coming down hard and they were all worried about the other wolves coming in and attacking.
Riley- Listen guys, I should probably not tell you this, but I think Wane is bad news as well.
Alpha- What do you mean Riley?
Riley- Well today when I was in the jungle I came across a set of bushes and found something that you must see. Here I thought you might want to rethink what you guys are about to get mixed up in. Alpha and Dug were shocked, they could not believe their own eyes when they saw the collar.
Alpha- That, that was Burns’s collar, NOOOOOOO! Don’t tell me…..they. Riley had a very sad look on his face. Dug and Alpha started crying. They howled and whined. The gt bear tried to quiet them down but they ignored him. Suddenly, they heard rapid barking and snarling.
Riley-Oh no, it’s the wolves, what do we do?! The bear came up and pointed to a set of rocks.
Gordon- you guys get behind those rocks and don’t make a sound, especially you Riley if they find you here, I can’t promise what they will do to you. The three canines rushed to hide behind the set of rocks. They peaked out and saw a bright light coming through the tunnel followed by shadows of what looked to be like wolf shadows. The first canine came into sight with a bright flashlight on its collar. Riley looked and saw it was Britney.
Riley- wait, how in the world did she get one of the next gen collars. Alpha I thought you told me there were only two made?
Alpha- well yes, master said that I and Dug were the first testers. Alpha looked at the female Doberman making her rounds around the cave. Gordon just sat back and watched as the wolves finally made their way inside. Wane walked up to Gordon smiling from ear to ear with his silver teeth.
Wane- Gordon old timer, I thought you would be retired by now. I mean how hard must you work until you collapse? The other wolves busted out laughing; Britney was the only one not laughing. She was more the serious type of the pack. Alpha just stared her down from behind the rock. He wanted to meet her. He thought she was an angel from heavon.
Britney- Gordon, we must find Dug and Alpha. Have you seen them at all today? Gordon was just staring her down shaking his head no. Wane came up and his smile went away and started squinting at the large bear.
Wane- Gordon you fat lazy no good swine, I am going to ask you this one time, and one time only, is Riley here right now? You better think long and hard and very carefully, because if I think you are lying you will be our next meal bear! So, is he hiding out in here with those looser dogs? Gordon felt trapped\ he did not want to give them away so he lied and covered for Riley as well. Riley could not believe what he was hearing from a bear like Gordon.
Gordon- they are not here Wane, if I was you I clear out before I decide to have me some fresh hot dogs from woves. Oh, and by the way, if you threaten me like that again, I will personally end you myself Wane. Wane snarled and barked in furious anger.
Wane- IS THAT A THREAT! Gordon got up and roared at Wane yelped and retreated he and the other wolves scrambled and left the cave at once. Britney still remained and sat in the middle of the big room looking at Gordon intensely.
Britney- Wow bear, you sure know how to clear a room don’t you. Alpha got up and spoke. Britney turned her head so quickly it’s almost like a voucher. She stared at Alpha walking up to her, he sat down in front of her and looked at her with puppy eyes. He was starting to blush as he looked in Britney’s sparkling eyes. She looked almost exactly like Alpha, but with lighter eyes and wore a pink collar around her neck. Alpha was looking dead at the collar and noticed it was the new model like his and Dugs
Alpha- Um, hi my name is Henry, but I don’t go by my real name, everyone calls me Alpha and what might be your name my pretty. Britney blushed as well and liked how Alpha was on to her.
Britney- well sweet heart my name is Britney, everyone calls me Britney. Alpha started drooling as he listend to her pretty voice.
Britney- I am a member of the wolf pack, I actually used to serve with you guys before I was kicked out. Alpha could not believe what he was hearing. He did not know what to say to her remark.
Alpha- Wait, I would have known if you served with us not unless you left shortly after I came in. But why would master kick you out, you are so pretty, and smart and kind. Britney stood up and walked over to Gordon and sat down at his feet and turned around and looked at the other canines.
Britney- You really want to know why I left, it’s because I am a girl, ok I am a female. I am the only female in both packs all you guys are males. The wolves in the wolf pack are all males. What am I supposed to do with all this man power? I feel like, I don’t know, like I don’t belong here. The wolves worship me and they love me as a friend, but other than that I don’t see any other reason why I am here. Gordon finally spoke after listening to Britney’s testimony.
Gordon- Alright from what I gathered so far, you feel like you are trapped with the wolves. You don’t want to portray them after taking you in, and making you a part of their family, am I getting this right so far sweetoms? Britney shook her head yes and walked back over to Alpha. She could not stop blushing, she thought he was a very handsome Doberman. Britney reached for something in her collar and pulled out a small letter.
Britney- this a invitation for dinner the night before you leave which is the night after tomorrow night. I would love for you to dine with me before you leave, does that sound ok to you……?
Alpha- Henry, but everyone else calls me Alpha, but you my dear can call me by my real name if you wish. Britney actually liked Henry over Alpha, so she said her farewells and said by to Henry on the way out. Dug and Alpha asked if they could crash in Gordon’s cave tonight and Gordon said yes. Gordon led them to his bedroom; he made two cots, one for Alpha, and one for Dug. Gordon stopped suddenly and looked at the two dogs.
Gordon- Tell me something guys, have you ever truly thought why me and those monster wolves have translator collars? I mean do you know why we have all this technology at our disposal? Its because Jonathon your knew master used to be an engineer for a programming company. He made AI and it was successful. It was going to be used for self operations, cars, helicopters, planes, anything mechanical he could make it self aware of anything and make it the most robust AI system any company has ever seen. Unfortunately, however, His last project went cold turkey; He joined a software team that worked on the UI for the omnidroid series. His team made several mistakes and cost Lamdaton the project. He was fired and everyone else on the team was terminated too. Ever since that day, Jonathon has been living here in the jungle since. Alpha and Dug were intrigued by what they were hearing. Alpha was laying on his cot with his head up and his ears straight up interested in Gordon’s story.
Alpha- So, Gordon, how do you know all this stuff, have you been spying on us and our masters this whole time? Gordon plopped on his big bed and said,
Gordon- well yes and no, I know everything that happens in this jungle because I am the one who has been watching over you guys for many, many years. I have seen much death and evil that it would make your fur stand up. Gordon said goodnight to the dogs and turned off the lamp in the corner of his bed.
Meanwhile:
Britney made her way back outside and came to a brook. The storm was now gone and the excitement of the frogs filled the night. As Britney was walking back to her base she heard a voice off to her left through a set of bushes. She got suspicious and started tailing the voice. She knew it sounded like trouble but she wanted to see what it was anyway. She peeked through the bushes and there he was Fernando Anderson! Britney knew who this character was, she hated his guts. It took everything in her power not to jump out the bushes and nibble on his neck.
Fernando- Oh yes Jeffery we have the satellite dish in position, we will launch it tomorrow for sure. And this will officially make you the man of the world. Those two dogs have no idea what I am capable of. If they interfere and step out of line tomorrow, the wolves will kill them, and I promise you Jeffery that the dogs of Charles Muntz will no longer be a problem for you. Goodnight sir, Tell Alice and the kids I said hi. I should be back in America by Friday afternoon, we will make up for lost times my friend. Fernando hung up and was walking the opposite direction of Britney. She had her recorder on the whole time and now had evidence of who ordered the satellite dish. Britney followed Fernando and was on his trail. She followed him through the noisy night of the jungle and found herself back at Sunset village. She saw Fernando enter his tent and sealed it behind him. She quietly made her way to the tent and put her pointy ear on the fabric to hear what Fernando was doing. She heard the latch door closing, meaning he just entered the bunker. She was getting ready to claw the tent when she heard a soft voice behind her.
Raphael- Alpha, is that you, what are you doing back here so late? Britney turned around and looked at Raphael and replied,
Britney- uh, I am not Alpha I am Britney. I know I look like Alpha but the collar should have given it away. Alpha and I look so much alike that’s why they gave me a pink collar to let everyone know that I am a female. Raphael was ashamed of calling Britney Alpha.
Raphael- Britney I am so sorry love I did not mean to call you that. You are right, I should have looked at the collar and…… Raphael suddenly stopped and was looking at Britney’s collar.
Britney- What is it Mr. Raphael?
Raphael- Britney…….how did you…….I mean how did you get your paws on the generation 5 collar? I thought that was a prototype, only Dug and Alpha are supposed to have those. Britney sighed and replied calmly,
Britney- Well Cole gave it to me, he said that Mr. Jonathon left it for me; I guess he still feels guilty of how things ended for me when I left the dog pack. Raphael gasped to her response. Britney put her paw on his mouth and told him to shut up.
Britney- Quiet! Do you want the other villagers to wake up? Look I used to be part of the dog pack, but they were always making fun of me and never made me feel like family, all because I was a girl. They didn’t that I could handle myself in the pack and therefore made me feel useless. That is why I joined the wolves. At first they did the same thing the dogs did reject me because I was a girl, but Fang stepped in and welcomed me to their family. He did not care I was a dog or a female; he said everyone is equal no matter the breed or the gender. So that is where I am now. You better not tell those two dogs I said to you. This is personal information. Raphael promised not to say anything than left to go back to bed. Britney returned to Fernando’s tent. She took her index claw and spliced a hole in the fabric and went all the way down to the bottom. She entered the tent and sniffed around for some evidence. She did pick up a scent. In the back corner there were several boxes that said, LI shipping.
Britney- LI? What could that mean? She thought and thought then it hit her, Oh, Lamdaton Industries now I get it. She walked over to the crates and pulled up the top to see what lie inside it. Britney could not believe her eyes, inside the crate she was looking in ay several land mines! They looked almost like the ones Cole had today. When he sent Charlie and Riley out before the storm.
Britney- You have got to be kidding me! There is enough explosives here to take out an army! Why does Fernando have all these weapons?! She was furious and wanted answers she went over to the latch and flung it open and jumped down into the bunker. It was pitch black, meaning that Fernando knew she was coming and was waiting for her, or he was sleeping.
Britney- Collar, activate flashlight, medium setting. The collar turned on the bright LED flashlight above the indicator light. The light flooded all the way down to the end of the bunker to the back wall. Britney saw something on the wall; It looked like a robot blueprint. She walked up to it and examined it more carefully, the Omnidroid V11 design and blueprints, Buddy Pine AKA Syndrome, were signed at the bottom. The robot was huge and it had multiple features. The bottom left corner read: Canceled project by Lamdaton Industries. Britney flipped over the blueprints and saw that this was supposed to be for military use only, but the military could never get approval from There General to fund the costs of the project.
Fernando- well, well, well if it isn’t Alpha himself snooping in my stuff! Britney jumped ten feet in the air and knocked everything off the wall, including the blueprints to the omnidroid.
Britney- I am not Alpha you idiot, I am Britney! Fernando smiled as he pointed to her collar’s tracker.
Fernando- I think you are in big trouble missy did you know that your tracker was active this whole time? Britney got big eyed when she heard this.
Britney- oh no, if they find out I am here they will kill me for sure!
Fernando- that’s right, they will. You have about 1 minute before they come after you and you know Wane Britney, He will terminate you for betrayal. Britney was shaking now she was so scared to return to the base now. She pointed at the blueprints and wanted to know why Fernando had those. He pointed to his neck, pointing out that she had little time to escape.
Fernando- Honestly Britney, did you really think you could double-cross me and think you could snoop in my stuff and not pay the price for it? You are a bad dog Britney; you will suffer the consequences when you get back to the base. Britney left the bunker and tore her way through the tent even more and rushed back through the woods. She rushed through several streams and sets of bushes and finally made it to the base entrance. She was stuck she heard her tracker click off on her collar. She gulped she knew they had eyes on her and she could not get out of this one. She saw Wane open the door and standing in the doorway. He was sniffing the air and called out,
Wane- BRITNEY!!! I know you are out there. Don’t make me come out there and find you! I promise you it will not be pretty! Britney gulped again then came into the opening; her head cowered as she approached the base entrance. She glanced up at Wane who was double swording her eyes and showing his teeth!
Wane- you got three seconds to get up here before I grab you by your new collar and destroy it then terminate you for betrayal. Get up here NOW!! Britney did as she was told and jumped up walking past Wane shaking and afraid he would attack her. Wane closed the door behind him and followed Britney into the main lobby of the giant room. Cole, Charlie, and Ralph came out of the room in front of them looking at Britney with disgust. Every wolf was squinting their eyes and showing their teeth at Britney. Riley was relieved that it wasn’t him for once.
Wane- Alright Britney, I am only going to ask this once, so be careful with how you are about to answer this question, because we already know what happened, we just want to hear you say it. Where did you go tonight after we left Gordon’s cave? You were supposed to be back here a long time ago and you never showed up. We thought something happened to you so we started tracking your collar. Right when we got your location, me and the other wolves were about to come out and look for you, until I saw where you were. Care to enlighten us Britney? The pack of wolves remained looking like they wanted to attack Britney, this is where she made her stand and almost cost her life when she did this.
Britney- Don’t even go there Wane, do you know how much work I have done for all you snotty ungrateful, selfish, self-centered animals, and you dare say that I am the bad one here?! No Wane you will not throw that on me, and yes I followed Fernando and I recorded everything he did. He is using those poor innocent dogs to set them up for a war between you guys and the dog pack! Also, he is a member of Lamdaton Industries, did you know that? No of course, you never look at the bad ones in this situation but you will point the finger at me! Well I will not stand for it any longer. And you Wane, you will not antagonize me anymore I will not tolerate you threatening me. I was so scared to come back tonight but now I feel good standing up to you Wane. I dare you to make a move brother I want you to. Attack me, a female that will make you a coward in front of the whole wolf pack.
The entire wolf pack got big eyed and their mouths dropped to their chests. Wane just stood there embarrassed he told the other wolves to go into the other hangout room so he could talk to Britney. The wolves scrambled to the door avoiding what would happen next. Ralph, Charlie and Cole remained.
Wane- You know Britney, you got a mouth on you I will say that, you are not afraid of standing up to me. Anybody else would’ve already been dead. But I will say this, you are not neutered, so you know what I mean by that yes? Britney gulped and knew what Wane was saying.
Wane- You betray this pack again and you and me will have wolf hybrids. I know how much you hate this, and I know how much this angers you, but test me again Britney and I will make your nightmare a reality, Do you understand me? Britney just stood there in shock and did not know what to say. The words finally came to her.
Britney- so if I anger you again Wane- you will get me to have Wolf hybrid puppies and make me live a nightmare of trying to take care of them? Wane smiled and shook his head. Britney just finally apologized because she never wanted Wane, nor would she ever want him. She never wanted to mate with a wolf, she wanted to stick to her breed and her breed only.
Britney- Alright fine Wane you win, I will never do anything like this again. I promise. Please don’t torture me with wolf hybrids again please. Wane now knew what her weakness was and held on to it. He walked up and put his paw around her back and said,
Wane- I won’t do anything to you if you promise never to see those dogs again, or betray the pack, promise me Britney. He held his paw out and hoped she would take it, she did and Wane hugged her.
Wane- I am sorry I had to do that to you Brit, that makes me feel awful about myself, threatening you too have wolf puppies, just to prove my point, I really hate going down that dark evil path. Look everyone always mistakes me for the darkest animal in the woods. I am really not, look at Riley, he has messed up so many times and I always give him every benefit of the fought. The other wolves hate that I do this to him and not them as well. They yell at me and attack Riley, they don’t understand he is not a normal wolf; he is different from the rest of them. But his time is coming, he will mess up for the last time and he will suffer the wrath of his punishment. Wane left Britney to herself and walked with Cole, before they left Cole wanted to tell Britney something.
Cole- Britney I love you very much, you are a bright and intelligent dog, why must you behave like this. After I give you the new collar and everything you have to act like this, why? Britney sat there not knowing what right words to say. She finally came back and replied,
Britney- Master you are right, I have behaved badly tonight and I apologize. I don’t know what came over me, but I ashore you, it won’t happen again. Cole patted her head and Cole disappeared down the long hallway off to the right. It was not adding up to Britney what kind of base this was, it was huge but there were many emergency exits all along the side windows. She went down the long corridor and came to a door on the left. It led to a stairwell which went several flights up. There were at least 6 floors from what she could see. Britney went halfway up the dim lit stairwell and came to the third floor where her room was. She pushed the door open with her nose and closed it when she came out of the stairwell and entered a hallway. Eight doors in a row were on the wall in front of her, these were living quarters for all the wolves.
Riley just came up through the elevator and caught her just in time. And made his way to her. He gave her a sad look and walked with her to her room.
Riley- So, what happened tonight Brit? I don’t think I have ever seen you in trouble before. Britney entered her pink room with pink glittery wallpaper all around the room. She went over to her pink dog bed and just sat at the foot of it. Then she turned to Riley who was waiting to be invited over to her. She told him to come over where she was and she showed him something.
Britney- Riley, the other wolves cannot know that I found this, if you tell them, I will never speak to you again, and I might end you myself, do you understand me? Riley shook his head yes as Britney pulled out a copy of the blueprints with the omnidroid robot V11.
Riley- Whoa, what in the world is that thing it looks like a giant monster. Britney smiled as she replied to Riley,
Britney- This is the weapon that Fernando is after, he wants to develop it somehow and use it to destroy the world, or something of that matter. We cannot tell the others that I found this. When I was down in his bunker, I snapped a picture and immediately made a copy. So the other wolves cannot know this, also while I was in Sunset village I found some land mines in Fernando’s tent. Now I don’t want to make assumptions, but I think he is involved with the deaths of the dogs. He has got to be, not unless he sold them to master Cole and Cole did it. I have a sneaky feeling about Fernando, oh and not mansion the mines today that you and Charlie had. Riley got quiet all of sudden as he knew where Britney was going with this. Riley started thinking about what he saw in the dark tunnels earlier that day. He didn’t want to tell anyone but at this point he did not care.
Riley- You know Brit I think you are right. Our family has been involved for many years with Charles Muntz. You want to know how I know, because I was trying to get out of the storm and found an underground passage way that led to a pitch black room. When I ignited the powder and looked inside, it was filled with canine skeletons. Then the sound of howling, and whining, and rapid barking of the innocent souls taken by our family, I could not take it. It breaks my heart to know that master could be this evil, to destroy countless lives, just for revenge of something that happened decades ago.
Britney- Well there is nothing we can do Riley, except just take one day at a time and go from there. Now if you don’t mind I am kind of tired can you flip the light switch off please, I’ll see you in the morning Riley. Riley said goodnight and kissed Britney’s cheek and left the room. He flipped the switch off and closed her door. Riley came out in the long narrow hallway and went all the way down to the other end where his room was. Riley entered his room and closed the door behind him. He walked over to his big dog bed and plopped down to go to sleep. He knew tomorrow was going to be a bad day, so he was going to enjoy his last peaceful sleep. Then there was a knock on the door. It opened and in the doorway stood Wane.
Wane- Riley, I hope you’re not asleep yet I want to tell you something. Riley opened his eyes then sat up in the bed to hear wane speak.
Riley- no, I just laid down just before you came, what’s up?
Wane- well tomorrow is a big day for the world. We are launching our new weapon tomorrow, and I was wondering if you could be by my side when we launch it. I know we had our differences Riley, but it would mean the world to me if you could be there with me to launch the satellite tomorrow. Riley just looked at Wane and said sure. He did not want to disappoint Wane anymore then what he already was.
Wane- Thank you Riley that means the world to me, thank you buddy. Now get some rest, tomorrow is going to be a very big day for everyone. Wane patted Riley’s back then walked to the door and closed it behind him as he left. Riley was now in trouble. He had to call Dug and Alpha in the morning to let them know he was not going to be able to leave the base. Riley was in trouble now. He closed his eyes and went to sleep.
Back at the cave Gordon was sitting outside his cave looking at the full moon. He was still trying to figure out what Riley was talking about when he said he found something in a set of bushes nearby. So Gordon decided to venture in the quiet night and the bright full moon lit the way pretty well. Gordon walked down several passages where Riley claimed where he found the collar of Burns. Gordon kept sniffing and hunting, until finally he got something. He trailed down an aisle of bushes. The trail le to a circular area with a dead patch of flowers were. Gordon knew that this was the spot. He sniffed the patch and noticed something sticking out of the dead patch. Gordon reached for it and pulled it out. He could not believe his eyes, it looked like the remains of the generation 4 translator collar. The name on the collar said Burns. Gordon now knew that Burns was murdered intensely not accidently. He put the collar in his mouth and ventured back to his cave. He put the collar on his bed and just looked at the sleeping dogs. Alpha was snoring bad and Dug was having a nightmare because he was moving all around in his sleep. Gordon could not sleep, he was now thinking about who could murder his old best friend. He watched as Dug and Alpha slept hard and Gordon looked at the moon again and wondered what evil in the jungle could do this to two innocent dogs and their family. Gordon finally got tired and decided to call in. He walked up to his bed and plopped down. A big bear like Gordon could be known of plopping down on a bed. But Dug and Alpha were so deep in sleep they did not even notice. Gordon flipped off the light and fell asleep.
