I also got all the achievements on the PS3, although I did use a guide for the stray beads since I was never able to find all of those on the PS2 despite my best efforts. One or two of which though were actually much easier to find in the HD remake thanks to the graphics being more pristine. The guide also helped ensure that I didn't miss any fish for the tome, since I believe there was one or two missable ones because they need to be caught in Agata before Kokari moves on.
However, I never would've figured out that quest for the pet rabbit on my own. I just remember spending forever running around in the original trying to find a lost dog, assuming that's what the guy meant since there was no blatant indication as to the missing pet's species for somebody not from Japan, so naturally a dog was the conclusion I drew since those are the type of pet that generally get lost.
Interestingly, the achievements also taught me that it's possible to outrun the Sea Dragon when you first arrive at Ryoshima. I had just assumed you had to be caught by it, so was quite surprised to see an achievement that actually rewarded not becoming a temporary snack.
I actually got ahead of myself though in saying I've beaten it three times, because I'm currently on my third run of the game. I'm doing a challenge run (which I'm uploading to YouTube in a condensed format, but you're probably not interested in that) where I'm trying to go through the game without spending Praise on anything other than maximizing my wallet size. Still too soon though to know whether or not I'll actually make it all the way through, but hopefully it'll help rectify the game's greatest flaw, which is its utterly pathetic difficulty.

First time I played Okami was on PS2 and I don't remember if there were achivements back then but I think not...
I also couldn't use any help to find every pearl either so it took me a while to find them all XD So enjoyable when I finally had that mega ink power tho!! I used some help for the steam version tho.
True, that pet quest was annoying :/ And indeed, I didn'tknew you could outrun it until I read that challenge :O Who knew a wolf (even divine) could outrun that monster!?
Well, good luck to you then :D And yeah, the only speed run I (sometime) watch are those for games like mario or such...
I'll add: Okami was a big influence on my fursona. So much, I want to make a Amateratsu like OC but thought against it... I could do something with the kami like tattoos tho :D
