A character design for a knight of the Illethylian High Kirk of the Blessed Saints, a church state faction in "Sanctum" ruling over the North of the continent.
The Kirk's ways, originating from the cultural cornerstone of the city of Illeth, are deeply rooted in subservience to the powerful forces dwelling in the woods that cover the North. The entities roaming the woods, exerting the powerful aura of godly figures to witnesses who survived an encounter with it, have thus been chosen as avatars of the Kirk's godly figure, “The Great Flame”.
From their fortified gothic towns, they will venture into their associated villages to collect what’s due, and head to the woods to make great sacrifices to the forces awaiting inside. The church knights in particular make sure all the peasants follow the orders of the high priests through their imposing presence, as epitomes of the Kirk's ruling power.
This piece has been in the works for a long while due to some interruptions due to work and lack of motivation. Thankfully, it's now done and I can share this little design and diorama with you. Here's some details:
- The wooden charms on the chest of the knight are accrued through service to the High Kirk and represent spiritual wards through protective runes etched into them.
- Their antlers are carved from wood and weigh heavily upon a knight's or priest's head to symbolize subservience to the Great Flame. Its avatars allegedly roam the deep woods - adorned with antlers and a radiant fire illuminating the thicket, which is not meant be gazed into by mortals, or else...
- Flamberge-like swords are the weapons of choice, as they are symbols of exerting the will of the Great Flame onto the sworn enemies of the High Kirk.

Thank you so much for saying that! I am glad it shows that I try to make things look as interesting and detailled as I can manage, so every point of the illustration has something going for it. It's obviously a lot of extra work to do and takes a lot of time, but it pays off, evidently!
