When I'm going on a several days hike, there're two moments that I cherish more than others, two moments where I actually take the time to sit down, relax and to gaze upon the view in front of me. These moments are when I wake up in the middle of the night and I go out of the shelter to admire the so starry sky that you might find when you go in the middle of the mountain massifs. The second one is, as I often wake up and resume walking before the sun rises, to sit on a rock and to admire the colours of the sky and the mountains being outlined on the horizon as the sun slowly rises behind the said mountains.
While, unfortunately, I cannot share here the starry nights that I enjoy so much because of a lack of adapted devices, I can at least share the silhouette of the mountains as the sun rises.
And I'm still as bad as ever at titling...

Another wonderful photograph! It is nice to see the sunrise in another locale (especially one that is not flat like mine). Night pictures have been difficult when with the new digital cameras.
It is a beautiful thing to be able to stop and enjoy the night sky without interruption or light pollution from cities. :)

Thank you! And yes, while a sunrise always is technically the same wherever you are, it really highlights some locations! And I understand you concerning flat regions..^^
Well, I cannot say I've yet experienced non-digital camera for night photography, but yes, it does require quite some skills to managed to do nice photos at night, thankfully, with sunrise, there is enough light to allow to take photographs without the use of a tripod.
Indeed, it really is a great thing to do! And when the nights are windless and cooler or warmer (depending on the season) than during the day, you just want to spend your whole night outside to stargaze.

Thank you for reminding me about using the tripod. I understand that the camera gives you a more crisp picture when it is stable, but the software can help you do what you need to do most of the time.
I agree with you! There are some times where it would be lovely to stargaze the whole night. The stars have a peace to them. We are reminded of how small we are in the universe. :)

Well, my camera is 12 years old so the software is still quite basic so it doesn't help very much, but I guess with more recent cameras (and higher quality too), it must works better.
Indeed, to think about that all these little dots in the night sky are actually stars much bigger than our own planet is really interesting. It's also so relaxing to just do nothing but to admire the beauty of an untammed nature.

Ah! I understand now. Yep 12 years ago I don't think we had an electronic autofocus that was very advanced. The recent cameras have sooo many features and many many measurements that adjust the picture quality in real time. It's incredible how technology has bloomed.
You have the best idea. To enjoy untamed nature is a special gift from our existence. :)

I'm going there with my father, he spent his youth in these mountains and as of now, returning there to hike in the middle of the nature is really the time of the year he's looking forward to. But well, since it isn't recommended to go hike in the mountains alone, I come and accompany him with a great pleasure, when work allows me to, that said.
Indeed, since we share a love for untamed nature, it's really a moment that we both enjoy. Well no rule forbid you to go alone, but in case of problem, it's better to have someone with you who might call the rescue. After, when we did the hike from which this photo comes from, half of it was done on the side of a crest, the trail was just wide enough for one person to walk on and was standing at 1.000 - 1.500m from the bottom of the valley and it was also decorated with several commemorative plates remembering those who died on this crest... So, in such cases it's better to have some back-up. ;)
