Welp. This is my average work week.
Yes, I over-exaggerated. Yes, this happens a lot.
No, I don't blame the customers. It's my job to be nice. So I'm nice ;P
This should be a meme.
Monday - Some kid buys a shitty game and cancels all preorders to buy it. Comes in nexy day to trade it in.
Tuesdy - People yelling at me why Sports games that are 6 years old aren't worth a lot.
Wednesday - MASSIVE TRADE IN WITH NO CASES BEFORE CLOSING FFFF
Thursday - Customer calls us scam artists, lame, con artists...and still buys from us.
Friday - Generic Douchebag who thinks all the games he buys are the best.
Weekend - Self Explanatory.

No, it's marketing. People in the UK get different items too. Like at GAME if you preordered Dante's Inferno you got a code to play as Isaac from Dead Space. Not a single store in America had gotten anything similar.
Not to mention you can also preorder it online and get whatever freebie as well, too.
Nothing but Marketing.

I feel your pain! I've had customers cuss me out and say they are never shopping in my store again, only to see them a week later. I can't count how many times I've been cussed/yelled at for not bending out return policy. I've even had a lady threaten my job, telling me she hopes I like working at KFC for the rest of my life.
This was literally last week for me.
The customer all pissed off his old game only got a dollar of trade-in. The huge stack of discs with no cases as we were near closing traded in. Battletoads. Seriously, is 4-chan or some other fucking internet retard sending out missions to crank-call all Game Stops in their area with this bullshit?

I love game stop, no seriously I do .. They got cool people that work at mine (save this one chick I ran int.. SHE KNEW JACK ABOUT VIDEOGAMES .. o.o) But all the others we always talk about games and stuff its rad.
Also where eles can you make mad bank off used games you pick up at a yard sell? I picked up some random 360 sports game for like a buck at a yardsell and got 6 out of it at gamestop. ^^

That's more-so what customers do with the game afterward. For example, Crackdown is $8, it's been $8 since almost when it came out. Why?
Everyone traded it in a week after buying it. They all wanted the Halo 3 Beta.
So if every Gamestop gets 10-20 Copies of Crackdown traded in a day, the value of it decreases. It's like buying a new car. Once you drive it off the lot with the papers signed, it's worth $10,000 less then what you just bought it for.

It's not set by each store. It's set by the Corporation. Gamestops aren't franchised out.
Don't blame us because 100,000 people trade in a game in the 4,700 stores we have. We just try to offer an alternative instead of yard selling it for even cheaper, or even throwing it away.
Not to mention Gamestop also has to make a profit from games just to stay open. A majority of games we sell are new, which give us $0 profit. If we give you $10 for a $30 game, then we get $20 to stay open.
But also Nobody is forcing you to shop at Gamestop. I just like to clear things up.

Well, what I'm saying is I can shop there, but I'm not going to sell anything back to them. I've become more frugile with my purchases to the point I'll see what's at the stores and what's out, and check metacritic to look up reviews on the game before I buy so I don't buy something that's junk.
Aaah. I see. Sorry if I got a bit defensive back there, I'm so used to people trying to argue about Gamestop, it's almost become a habit.
It's good that you wait for reviews, I try to let customers know what they're buying too. I usually quote a few bits from GameInformer or reviews from Destructoid; or if I don't have one I try to offer a Used copy because of the better return policy for it. (7 Days from purchase including day of, with receipt gives a full refund)
So I try to at least do that too. Then again I'm in an area with very picky gamers, so a lot of times I get new-releases traded in within week of release.

My sis's fiance's sort of a picky gamer. He'll buy a game, beat it in a week, and then if it's a keeper, he keeps it, otherwise he sells it back.
One thing I've pretty much been for a long while, and still stick with is FPS's only get preordered for my computer. Only one I've actually made the exception for is Dead Space, getting a second copy for my ps3, but otherwise I've yet to encounter a fps that's as smooth and good to play on a console. My sis's fiance has Borderlands for the ps3 which he let me try, and the controls made me get it for the PC.

My sympathies - but overall, I've been happy with my experiences at Gamestop. Bit disheartening at times to get only a little back, but I mostly just trade stuff in to knock some money off of a new game.
Nice staff at the one I shop at, though...and heh - at one point in my area, there were 3 stores all within a mile or two of each other - one used to be a Funcoland waaaay back in the 90's, though. But they closed one recently - kinda surprised they didn't do it sooner, though.

*laughs* well... I can imagine that any "Dream Job" has all sorts of quirks and hitches that the average yokel is oblivious to.
I for one have handled enough retail, that I try my damnedest not to give those poor brave people working at it as little grief as possible, but I imagine I make the odd derp now and them to add to their FFFFfffuuuu-stack anyway.
That said.... Enjoy Black Friday this year?;)
Apparently there is some new shopping hell day developing in the holiday as well now... Cyber monday they call it. I imagine it will cause grief enough at a game store.;p
well, fight on, noble gamestopper, your sacrifice does not go unnoticed...
