This is a small medallion that appeared on an English brown stoneware bottle or jug made at the Fulham pottery (Fulham/Lambeth, London) in the mid- to late-1600s. It was found in excavations of a waster pit near one of the kilns in 1974-5.
Just posting it in case it provides inspiration to someone. I assume it is a play on stag-hunting (the 17th-century equivalent of the postcard of deer driving a car with hunters tied to the hood?)
Again, not my art: drawn by Chris Green and Mike Bussell for "The Fulham Pottery" Fulham & Hammersmith Historical Society Archaeological Section 1977.
