A larger sketch book helps your art generally. I recognize the early black powder weapons, though after the first volleys of Fire the smoke would become “ The fog of war”.

Now that you mention it, I see that the muzzle smoke is gone, and smoke from the pan is only kind of there. I think I unconsciously erased it in the process of drawing the papyrus and reeds.

Love the removable chamber for that deck gun. I've seen a few in museums like that. Shame the gunner took a crossbow bolt to the eye - much worse than an arrow to the knee.

I love the fact this dog is wincing from the fact he is unloading a hot breech canister from the cannon in the heat of battle. Or am I wrong about it being unloaded?

Well, what I intended to depict was the dog dropping the loaded canister from the shock of getting hit with a crossbow bolt in his left eye.
