The hands weren't scared. They were made of metal and Soluk flinched, trying to pull away and yet knowing that she couldn't.
"Be still, child," the woman whispered. "You will remember soon. Who you are. What you fight for. Only it will be far from here."
The Dragur felt her body starting to falter and reached out a hand, trying to push the woman away. "No..." Soluk replied, the word sounding weak. It was no longer the booming roar that scared thousands but now a pitiful rattle.
Smiling sadly, the woman touched her forehead to Soluk's, gently helping her to the ground. Snow fell. Night was coming. Her breath condensed in front of her muzzle. 'Cold. I'm so cold...' she thought, whimpering in confusion. Where was the snow? Only slick floor was under her body now, the lights darkening from dusk to black.
"You are scared. You are scared every time. But you will be fine yet again. I am so sorry to ask this of you. You deserve rest. After one thousand years, you deserve to sit at my side," the woman said mournfully and sat on the ground next to Soluk, smoothing out her mane. The touch barely registered to the transformed Chimera; her body was light, fading, and she almost welcomed the darkness. 'Kernhoff...I hope you are well,' she thought. 'And Moqua and Solvet too. But...who are they?'
A final kiss was placed above Soluk's nose and the last thing she heard was, "This future is dark. There is war. And you will continue to be my champion, daughter."
It went black.
Until searing pain pulled her back into a room she didn't know and faces she had never seen. "Where am I?" Soluk coughed, now back in her Chimera form and no longer a Dragur. An officer next to her saluted and said, "Sir, we are aboard the SS Vengeful Snow still. We've set a course for Mars just like you asked before the attack."
Her eyes widened. "Mars?" she blurted but then new memories and thoughts fell into place. Soluk knew who she was--a Colonel in Her Majesty's Army. Where she was from--the green forests of Canada spread out before her, pine smell making her nose tickle. Of course she had ordered her crew to Mars to the with the MecaniLos. That was her duty. It is what her mother, Regalia Poryania the First had asked of her to do. She was the most steady sister. The most diplomatic.
Of course. What a silly question.
Though...Soluk reached a hand up to touch her forehead, swearing she could see sightless eyes and feel the barest of kisses as if it was a forgotten dream. She pushed those thoughts away, sliding off the Medibed. "Soldier, report..."
In the darkness of the corner where the bulkheads met, a mournful but proud smile sat suspended in air before fading into nothingness.
