While Petra exists in the modern day, her origin traces back hundreds of years. She speaks little of her past to anyone, refusing to share details of her birth, childhood, or anything from before her discovery and restoration. She was found petrified in a cave in the mid 2010s, in a cave system that was clearly a secluded workshop and labratory of hers. Most of her potions had spoiled, her books long since destroyed by moisture, and her clothing had rotted away and been chewed at by rats and other small creatures. It was almost sheer luck that some of her last batch of petrification reversal potions had maintained potency for the many centuries since her initial entombment, which allowed her to be turned back by the archeological expedition that was meticulously picking apart her stony prison.
