"That calls it, I'm officially lost." Miranda said, sighing as she held her lantern aloft. It was more a nifty little case she had brought along for catching fireflies. Sometimes she kept moths or butterflies before letting them go in her garden at home, but now it served as her main source of lights. She'd told her friends she was going out for a stroll but taking the same path back had led her to her starting point but devoid of any signs of a gathering or anything really. "All alone in the woods at night, great, just great. You've really done it now, Miranda. Bet Del would never let me hear the end of it." She muttered to herself. The moon was only partially helping, it being a waning crescent, not casting its glow so efficient on the woods down below. Miranda made sure that her fireflies stayed glowing, though she didn't know what they ate. "Sorry, buggies, I don't want you to fade on my watch, but I don't know what you need. If only I had a better light...I...wait, what's that light?" Miranda apologetically addressed the insects before a bright glow from behind, no, ABOVE her drew her attention. Whirling about yielded nothing, the light now gone. But she sworn that her surroundings had just been brightly illuminated by something. Turning away brought the glow to her back once more, Miranda ducking under a tree to hide, but the light once again faded. "Kay, that's alarming, and now I am most definitely more than a little frightened." Miranda commented, slightly shaken by the mystery light that sought her. She looked outwards to where it seemed to emanate, but getting no effect. Turning away and she was showered with light. She started to walk, before the glow shifted in another direction, almost illuminating her in a specific direction. She walked, letting the fireflies buzz freely from their case, but in their wake were impossibly brilliant copies, a feeling of warmth and recollection as she focused on each, all differing in size and brightness. Like being brought back to times past, spent with friends, family, and her beloved. "Like little suns in there, all warm and glowy. I think I'll keep you guys, but be warned, I don't know what fireflies eat still." Miranda said, speaking to the fluttering lights in her lantern. Eventually she caught sight of her friends out in the distance, still in place like she hadn't been gone for such a length of time as her watch told. Looking back to the light she was met with a singular shape, like an eye made of distant stars and celestial bodies. "Thank you!" She said, curtsying the strange but kindly formation that seemed to glow brilliantly before fading, in its passing came the distant rays of orange from dawn's light. Making it to her friends she decided not to tell them of the eye in the sky, for they must've seen it themselves or maybe they wouldn't believe her if they didn't. They didn't question her disappearance from the gathering, merely stating she was back so soon. She ignored the comment and the company set off for their stops at homes, dorms, and the like. "I wonder what Del would think of it? Probably ask to see it himself. Either way at least I have you little guys!" Miranda said, speaking to herself as she keyed herself into home, setting down the lantern. What was that shape she continued to dwell. The eye of the universe perhaps?
