In my story, "Marooned on Tashoo", I have the protagonist decide to train his friend in sword fighting techniques and he tells his friend to attack him. Like Kathy here, the friend is afraid of hurting him until Mvilu (the protagonist) decides to show his friend (Rora) the likelihood of being hurt. It was close to the same thing as here except it took longer because Mvilu decided to play with Rora a bit to really show him how hard it would be for Rora to hurt him. I always thought that was a good scene in my story and it's equally good here.
