This is VERY much in keeping with Yannit as an insect. One of the ways you can control pest bugs is overwhelm them with pheromones enough that their bodies shut down, or they're unable to take any action. I do this with cinnamon all the time to break up ant swarms. Pheromones are HUGELY important to insects and especially social insects!
Looks like our researcher got a little impatient, though. Should have tried the scents one at a time and had Yannit log what she was feeling. Any promising ones you can repeat to see if the correlation is coincidence or actually significant.
Yes, I was a scientist once iRL.

mixture of 5% Borax plus 95% sugar water (you can get it in gel form as Terro Ant Killer). Just leave some of out near an ant trail. It will make the ant problem worse at first as they all come to eat it, but after about 48 hours they'll disappear.
The borax inhibits their ability to digest so that they all starve to death, but it does it slowly enough that they'll take it back to the colony and share it with all their friends (including the queen) first

I never really had any particular interest in insects, which is why I'm having trouble getting invested in this sub-plot and having something interesting to add.
Although, the prospect of Yannit going berserk is intriguing enough, and, from what I can gather, it wouldn't really be her fault since she's detached from her hive-mind. It makes me care about her a little more since she doesn't know what's going on or what she's feeling. I even noticed she was a tad hesitant in admitting that she trusted Ran.
