Feline Bionic
Per the request of one of my awesome patrons, here is the inner workings of the feline bionic (this is what Hairy would look like if you could somehow find the bits underneath all of the fur >>).
No litter box, all purrs!
Some notes:
- Bionics are not made of metal, but a lightweight comic!science product.
- Average life expectancy of bionic pets is 10 - 15 years.
- End of life care is more common since parts and chargers are less expensive
- Most “organic” animal foster agencies also have processes in place for bionic animals
- Animals that outlive their owners are usually either sent to live with a family member or on of these foster agencies though, like real animals, they don’t always adjust well. They don’t act out or scratch, but symptoms can include lethargy, not being treat-motivated, or decreased purring. Most recover with time. Occasionally they’re decommissioned and sent to rest with their owners, though this is a debated practice.
- AI is not as complex as human bionics, but additional “job” AI can be added such as “shop cat”, “mouser”, etc.
- Because of the simplified AI, pet bionics were the first. There are dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds. The market wasn’t large enough for more than the occasional reptile or amphibian, and the technology isn’t meant to be long-term submerged in water for a fish.
- About the price of a good used car. Advertised as good for children and long-term less expensive than traditional pets when regular food and veterinary care are considered. They also never get lost.
