Its a memory from a hundred years ago..! The woman is/was the wife of a man who killed himself after being sentenced to exile, and Swindle called himself a dear friend to that man. The woman here is seeking comfort from the only other person she trusts to feel that same way she does about the terrible news of his death.
But...there is a lot more to the story than just that, and Swindle's guilty conscious makes this experience a very haunting one.

She may still be alive!! But this image of her is a century old memory that has materialized before his eyes (and befor the eyes of the rest of the party!! But she speaks giant and only Swindle understands what she is saying.)

Luckily our DM rarely does this to us.

Haha our DM does this very sparingly! Actually, this is the very first time Swindle's past has been thrown at him in game! And it's because...we're in a wizard tower where we have been specifically tasked with finding and retrieving (or destroying) a magical altar that projects the memories of objects. In this case, the magic seems to have (without detection) latched itself onto Swindle's staff...which has been with him for aaages.

For the record, Swindle didnt want anything to do with any of this, but he' the only one in the whole group who feels this way LOL

I can imagine why, poor Swindle! By the way, I always forget that he's sooo ooold XD

Who is Maatvenn? The dead husband or another of Swindle's names?

One of Swindle's earlier names, the final name gifted to him by his clan before he left them.
It means "good friend" and was representative of the entire clan's opinion of him as a whole haha
