This is the final sketch of my second OC, Soulron. For the finalization of Soulron’s character design, I commissioned the illustrator Tophungnhi/Orangesekaii to redesign the entirety of Soulron.

Treasured possession: A butterfly sculpture that was formed from his heart accepting the Victory Tattoo. Soulron obtained this sculpture after fixing mistakes he made from an episode of blind rage. He values this sculpture because it serves as his personal reminder that he must live with the actions he has made in his life. The sculpture makes Soulron feel a complicated mix of emotions and hope that he can move forward.

Soulron is a character who dominates everything that has made him suffer. This aspect of his personality is a result of the fact he was trained to fight at the age of six. He was created by Pangu, the creation deity of Chinese mythology to be the last living Zodiac Fighter and as powerful as the Cosmos Deity, Madeira. As part of the contract that lead to Soulron’s creation, Soulron will cease existing the moment Madeira no longer needs him. This part of the contract of Soulron’s creation would not come into effect until the dormant starlight sealed within Madeira’s hair was awakened. Because Soulron was created to be the ally of the Cosmos Deity, Soulron was born without legs because of one of the rules of the Cosmic Prophecy, a set of absolutions infused with the powers of Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth and Shub-Niggurath:

If the cosmos deity is destined to have an ally who will serve them in their goals, this ally will be born with a flaw much like the cosmos deity. This flaw can be any disease, mental condition, disfigurement, birth defect, disability or cognitive issue. This flaw is not minor. It will be a flaw that permanently cripples the ally of the Cosmos Deity.

Being trained to fight and born without legs played a major role in how Soulron formed his life philosophy and outlook. He is compassionate and reliable to those he loves but merciless and savage to those who are his enemy. He lived his life on a volcano with his foster father Fus Lung and travelled across the world of Centino to master his powers as a volcano dragon. His home environment and travels had Soulron constantly breaking his bionic legs and he learned how to fight and live legless.

Over the course of his life, Soulron became a Zodiac Fighter and is the last living Zodiac Fighter. He was trained by the Centaur species Lucifer’s Insignia, mastered his elemental powers of fire, lightning, earth and natural flight, obtained the Victory Tattoo, the Gehenna Tattoo, Lucifer’s throne, defeated the Olympian Gauntlet and obtained the Zodiac Sword. The Victory Tattoo is a mystical tattoo that gives its wielder the power of victory and is on the right backside of Soulron’s wings. The Gehenna Tattoo is the dimension of Hell infused into Soulron’s body and is on the left backside of Soulron’s wings. Soulron literally carries Hell itself with him wherever he goes. Everything within Hell is fully at Soulron’s command. The throne of Lucifer is Soulron’s wheelchair and is a magical seat that morphs into what it’s sitter needs.

Soulron follows the same character design principles as Madeira. Soulron is meant to be a sincere and hardened man at heart. But he is someone with trauma as a result of the things he has been through from being trained to fight since he was six years old. The appeal of Soulron that makes him compelling is that he exceeds the things that have given him hardship and becomes the hardship towards those things.

As a child, Soulron felt he had to go through his training to survive, even though he had a loving family. This anxiety and dismay made Soulron develop many inner issues and mental problems when he became an adult. Ever since he was six years old, Soulron became aware that his existence will be taken away when Madeira no longer needs him. This fact is the cause for Soulron coming across to others who do not know him well as someone who will never fit into a normal society and should have stopped living the moment his Gehenna Tattoo gave him the capability to tear down mountains and continents.

Trivia about Soulron

Soulron’s visual appearance is inspired by the British strongman Eddie Hall.

Soulron’s name was made to represent that he is a soul that fights on. This name was made as it reflects that Soulron fights on, even with the awareness that his existence and purpose is tied to supporting someone who will exceed him. He is meant to be a parallel to Madeira and is someone who acts as the enabler of Madeira’s role in my game’s story.

Over 16-character sketches were made in the process of making Soulron’s character design. His character design was finalised by the illustrator Tophungnhi/Orangesekaii.

Over the course of the development of my video game, a minimum viable product for Soulron was not made until 0.3 of my game’s development build was made. Until work began on Soulron’s minimum viable product, his gameplay was planned to be in between Mega Man X and Sonic the Hedgehog. In the context of video game development, a minimum viable product is the minimum game experience that tests if a game’s core mechanic is engaging.

The character of Soulron is not inspired by any specific character in media. During the process of making Soulron’s visual appearance, I decided that when you look at Soulron, he should express an aura of terror, hardiness, protection and a subtle hint of humanity and compassion. The hint is meant to be expressed in the Yin Yang of his armour and his command over victory and Hell to dominates all who are his enemy.

Soulron’s Hikaru Dorodango hobby is a reference to the fact he is the creation of a man, Pangu. In Chinese mythology, Pangu is said to have created the world by emerging from the confines of an egg. Soulron’s hobby of crafting spheres from dirt is meant to reflect that he was created from the spirits of twelve Zodiac Fighters and an object that Pangu was once confined in. It's meant to show that Soulron can go beyond the potential of a god. But he cannot exceed a Cosmos Deity.
