after all this time, and having this page touched up, I think I can give a better explanation:
So, thanks to a combination of a scientific accident and her genetics, my version of fluttershy is immune to radiation in a similar way to doc sampson or bruce banner. so she is able to get in close and hit stheno with a specialized tranq rifle made to work on him without risk of permanent injury. However her passive ability stacks unpredictably with stheno's passive reduction of radiation damage to biological lifeforms in a certain area, and her cells start absorbing it at an alarming rate causing her underlying condition to be un-suppressible
