This Navajo Cougar family in southwest New_Mexico got a good deal on their new 1960 Plymouth.
Although it is a new car, the price didn't really set them back...To begin with, this car is a Savoy model which were the lowest price line Plymouths in 1960, starting out at around $2,000 new. Belvedere was the next level up, and Fury was top of the line.
Their car is also a basic car with no optional equipment. It doesn't even have a radio, it has standard vinyl seats, and it has rubber floor mat covering instead of carpet. And it is also equipped with a 225 slant six motor, and a three speed manual transmission (back in the days when the shift lever was mounted on the steering column), and it is a 4 door.
Four door is also great for a family with cubs.
The rubber floor covering and vinyl seats are an easy to clean plus when you got cubs.
And Dad likes the six cylinder and manual transmission because those are generally good on gas millage.
The owner of the dealership and his family, happen to be long time friends with the Cougar Family, thus the family got an exceptionally good deal on the car. As the dealer had told them, a basic 4 door car in that green colour would be a hard to sell car.
Daddy Cougar and Mama agreed that being they can get the car cheap enough, it would work for them, and it wouldn't matter what colour the car was.
In fact, before the car sold and was still on the lot, sales animals at the dealership would affectionately call it "The Green Goblin".
The stone rear guards were not originally part of the car. The dealer offered the stone guards as a dealership add-on for free.
As for a radio, the family's friend who owns the dealership offered a good deal on installing a radio.
Back in their Navajo community, relatives and friends of the family are really impressed by their new car. The Cougar Family really enjoys their new car as well.
The car they traded in was an old Ford built in the 1940s that was literally rusting apart...The dealership sold that old Ford at a used car dealer's auction. The weren't about to offer a car like that for sale on their lot.
