The One Who Started It All For Many Of Us...
Guess where I was this weekend!
Yeah, that mecca of cartoon consumerism, Disneyland! I'd never been, and Kani wanted to do something special for my birthday, and after he suggested a trip to the Land of the Mouse, I jumped on it, as there was another reason why I wanted to go: the Toy Soldier Invasion for Toy Soldier Day (which also happens to be my birthday- March 4th). >^___^< I got to meet a lot of cool folks.
We marched throughout the park, the bunch of crazies- did a kazoo interpretation of "It's a Small World"- at the Small World exhibit, of course. We later did the Addam's Family theme outside the Haunted Mansion, but this cadaverous old geezer who was running the door told us, in the most funereal voice (how appropriate), "please, NO kazoos in the Mansion..."
His killjoyness and the rain didn't stop us, oh, no... We went on to goof around in Space Mountain, Star Tours, Astro-Blasters, Indiana Jones, The Enchanted Tiki Room, and sang songs (really badly) on the pretty little train they have that goes through the Park (not the monorail, an old-time locomotive).
It was the most fun I'd had in years.. I'm pretty sure
had a lot of fun, too- he was the one who started a lot of the kazoo silliness. >^__^< I'm so proud of him!
It was long after dark, we were getting tired, and my hubby and I came upon this gorgeous little scene and I HAD to take a pic of it. Those odd little bright spots all over aren't a messed up photo- they're rain drops, reflecting the flash.
That man, whatever his faults, peccidellos, racism and what-not, had an amazing vision. What amazes me even more is that he actually got it all to WORK and got the park built during a time when folks were still reeling after a gruesome war. Maybe people needed it, I don't know, but I'm sure a lot of folks can claim they've had enriching experiences there.
As for the Furry connection, do I even have to detail it? How many of us watched some animated film as kids and fell in love with the characters? How many of us wanted to become artists, costumers or animators after seeing the magic on the screen? I know I did.
...And, here I am. >^__^<

Well, Happy Birthday to you! I actually don't get to meet many folks who share the same birthday as me- seems we're pretty rare. >^__^< Cool info nuggets, too! I love those! And I already knew about the "What day is like a command?" joke... I've always figured the Universe had it in for me- I just had to be born on the one day of the year that's the answer to silly riddle. *chuckles, grinning*
Birthday statistics? what might that be? I seem to recall something about more babies tend to be conceived in the winter months, so most birthdays will be late summer to autumn, though.... I was conceived around Midsummer, apparently, and in the fabled Summer of Love, too (1967, I was born in '68)!
I'm sure you're right about the statistical occurrence of people born on certain days- since there's so many humans on this planet, it's hard not to assume that a large chunk would share your birthday. It's still seems to be rare for people to be born on that March 4th, though. Out of the thousands of people I've talked to over the years, I've found a total of four people who shared the same birthday as me. One not only shares the day, but he also shares the year, and he's a dragon here on Fa as well. That one is a statistical anomaly, I'm sure. *chuckles*
Happy belated birthday! I'm glad you had a good time.
I really want to go to Disney World... but when my Canadian comes down we are planning for Universal, Islands of Adventure. But I'll compromise and drag him to downtown Disney X3
I love Dr. Steel, and I did join the website for the Toy Soldiers, but I'm way to skittish to go to any events. Since I'm all on my own ;-;

Hey, fellow Soldier! *grins* Thanks for the b-day wishes!
The Toy Soldiers are a fun bunch, pretty welcoming. I did notice that some of the ones I met are rather shy and are a lot more vocal online, so I don't think you'd have too many troubles with them because of your shyness. >^__^<

Heh heh... I'm not even really that vocal online X3 I gotta get out there sometime though.
You are so very welcome! Maybe I'll come to California someday and get to see whats different over there, Disneyland vs Disney World. Plus just to see what I can see. I love exploring X3
I am now pondering whether a Florida resident could buy a ticket for a non Florida resident at Disney... hrm...

I'm not sure of the difference between tickets, except for price... I'm sure they'd give you the resident price, even if your were getting them for a friend. >^__^<
I like exploring, too, but I have to know at least one lace that I can go to get home, if I needed it, and I need to have a nice BIG block of time so I can do it at my own pace. I like going through a place slow so I con look at everything. Never go shopping with me, you'd be bored to tears.

*huggles* Thank you, hon! It might be fun to go to the Florida one, but I think the cost is a bit frightening... O__O We got in for free, 'cuz one of the relatives works at the California park. I don't know if we would have gone if we weren't able to get those tickets in time. But, oh man, was it ever fun. Some of the older rides and exhibits REALLY need an update- they're incredibly dated and some of the imagery was so racist, it was hilarious. I even got to see Captain EO- they brought back that old chestnut as a memorial to M. J. Wow- holy '80's, Batman! That glowing t-shirt with the rainbow splotch on it and his "let's make everything pretty" gay-powers had me laughing like an idiot through the whole thing. It was probably a good thing that the Toy Soldiers and I were in the front row... The dancing and costumes were pretty cool, though. And I loved the Queen- so Giger, as was her throne-room/stage. The bunch of us were chuckling over how they look so much like Borg, too... EO came out first, though, so it makes me wonder if some of the design-team from EO also may have later worked on STNG...
Oh, poo- that must have been a pretty awesome ride... Space mountain is pretty snazz, though: it's this crazy black tunnel that weaves and twists all over the place and the only lighting is these bright "stars" long the walls that are reflected from mirrors all through the run. Trippy and a heck of a lot of fun. I think I prefer the enclosed roller-coasters. I seem to have troubel dealing with seeing the ground while I'm spinning out in those suspended chairs... Kind of a "OMIGOD! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!" thing. *giggles* Though, I do admit a fondness for Tatsu in Six Flags. That's too much like flying for me to freak out over. >^__^< The first time, though- whoosh! I was more than a little wigged over it: a certain 120 foot drop, upside down and HEAD FIRST, was what made that one an experience I wasn't sure about repeating. O___O
Man, you cannot get me into those rides. My great-uncle told me a story about seeing a girl fall out of a ferris wheel when I was a kid, that coupled with my fear of heights makes me vastly prefer rides that stay ON THE GROUND! Fortunately there were plenty at Florida, the dinosaur ride was really spiffy, as was the jeep ride through "Africa". My sister, who went with me, still teases me because I thought the hippos were animatronic (the water was so clear! They must have had a filter the size of an aircraft carrier hidden somewhere).
*giggles* Well, I have a mild fear of heights, but I'm able to keep panic out of that picture, most times. Tatsu scared the pants off of me the first time I went on it, but the second and third times were more fun once I learned that I could trust the harness that locked you in. That was the thing I was freaking over- that the harness might snap under the stress, even though it was obvious it wouldn't, seeing how often that thing was running every day. Logic crept in and eased my fears long enough for me to at least try it. Mind you, feeling my first earthquake while I was waiting in line for my first ride probably didn't help!
Disneyland has a similar ride where you're in a boat, but the water is obviously dyed a muddy green. The hippos there were animatronic- we were close enough to see how solid they were. >^__^<

Ah just curious. The Jeep ride through Africa, was that "Rhino Rally" at Busch Gardens? Because I so got to be a co-pilot on that one time. It was hilarious X3 And fun ^^
Unless it was something at Animal Kingdom, then that's the only thing close I can think of to what you described. I've never gotten the chance to go to Animal Kingdom.
Rambling... my apologies.

See how muddled me brain is? Gah. I didn't realize you were asking Froggy about his ride. I'm a nit-wit. Disney was a ton of fun, but it's given me a horrible cold. Dratted rain soaking me does it every time. That, and being around a whole fuckton of diseased humans. *giggle*
Ramble away, I don't mind. >^__^< It was the Jungle Adventure- at least, that's what the ride was called (I think, my memory is muddled after that loooong day). You got into this boat that took your along this river where you saw various animals and so on, plus some really racist depictions of African Tribesman shooting arrows at you. At one point, their were gusts of directed air shot at you to represent passing shafts flying past your faces. Pretty cool, actually.
I think the funniest point was where the guide was rattling off the rote jokes about how dangerous the hippos were supposed to be, and the biggest one that she was "warning off" with loud noise was playing host to a mallard sitting on his nose! It was too dark to take a decent picture, so no image, unfortunately.

Oh... hang on, you might know them as slide whistles. Sort of a cross between a recorder and a trombone... you blow in the top, then move a slide up and down to vary the pitch... it's very silly
There's a radio show over here called "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" where one game they play is 'Swannee Kazoo'... where two people have to play a piece of music, one on a slide whistle, the other on a kazoo...
*snuggles you up tightly and licks over your muzzle*

Nope. *giggles* I think it might even be the same arm up and pointing on both statues, actually. I'd have to dig around for an old image- the original statue was pulled down and destroyed. Here's one that I remember that has pretty much the same pose: http://www.deakondesign.com/images/.....S/image042.jpg Man, when I Googled Stalin's statue, I got a huge number of different images. I knew the guy was an egotist and that there were a lot of statues of him all over the U.S.S.R, but jeez...
