While painting all those HC SVNT DRACONES characters I needed some diversion now and then. And this diversion was this Displacer Beast. I always kinda liked those, and the current artwork for them is simply amazing (this one, in case you don't know it: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net.....east_-_p81.jpg )
This miniature... unfortunately not amazing. At best I'd say adequate. Now, in all fairness, the current line of D&D miniatures is good as a thing. There's lots of them, good variety and some really nice design. Not to mention they are VERY affordable. Unfortunately that's where the problems come in for they are definitely not the quality I am used to.
As far as I can say these a vinyl minis. I'm not sure but it's not regular plastic and it doesn't feel like resin. And for vinyl minis they have a nice degree of detail. Unfortunately vinyl doesn't hold it's shape very well. As such parts of them are often bent out of shape. Not a problem with this one, but I have yet to see one that actually had a straight staff or sword bade. Even hefty weapon like large axes are usually bent. I can fix that with little trouble, I have the tools and experience. But not everyone does. Also, they come pre-assembled and pre-primed. The latter is not an issue for me. I don't like white primer, but I can just prime again over that. But the former is because frankly, they are not assembled well. There's lots of flashing/mould lines and they are often assembled with gaps between the parts. Definitely not "ready to be painted" as advertised. I would have preferred to get them in parts and put them together myself.
I guess you get what you pay and yeah, I didn't pay much.
Anyway, I persevered and I think it turned out quite decent. Normally I highlight black with greys, but in this case a more blue-ish tone really works. You can find a couple more pictures here: https://imgur.com/gallery/UoGSo8U

That's quite likely the reason, yeah. And they are good minis, no doubt about that. But like I said, they do require work. And if one is used to the quality of, say, Games Workshop or Corvus Belli, one is going to be disappointed.
Admittedly though, you're paying one quarter the price, so one shouldn't expect the same.
But yes, I think its worth undoing the factory mess.
