Well it finally happened.
My dog--no, my friend and family member Lassie had to be put to sleep...
She's been a part of my life since I was only nine years old.
She was diagnosed with a hereditary auto-immune thing a few years ago, and since then it'd been a fight for her. but she was still happy, running around, etc.
But this last month it took a turn for the worse, the medicine she's on for the auto-immune stuff made an ulcer appear, and between that and other problems she's had (the last three weeks she's barely been able to walk because of her leg hurting her because of a sort of nervous thing) the only alternatives we had were to have her go through long, arduous surgeries that would put her in even more pain and might not even help, or put her to sleep.
She had been fighting with this for a long time, but it wasn't until just recently it took a bad turn, she could barely walk or anything.
So...we decided to euthanize her...this was not even two hours ago.
This photo was taken about 10 minutes before they sedated her and gave her the shot.
I will miss her dearly, she was the first dog to ever be a part of my family, back when it was just me, my mom, and our cat. I will always treasure every memory I have of her.
Goodbye, Lassie; And thank you for everything and being there for me almost my entire life so far.

I'm sorry for your loss I can relate to that same situation....my oldest dog lived to be 14 years old and we had to put him down due to arthritis and other conditions he had and he wasn't getting any better :/
I hope you'll find or adopt a new dog that'll be just as special as Lassie
