This is Tepeyollotl.
Heart of the Mountain, Lord of Echos, and the Jaguar Toel.
Often in Aztec and other various South American Native Myth, The Jaguar is found being the ever-so-eclectic mix and contradicting opposite as is every animal in Various Native lore- illustrating that by their mentality/comprehension/understanding of the way of things, nothing is tagged "good" or "evil" because those things are situational and/or misinterpreted by bias of a certain individual. European descendants have a notorious habit of tagging "Good" and "Evil" with clear distinction without any second thought.
Sometimes, Jaguar comes out of the Jungle to play with the Native Children, other times, he is a cruel fierce predator that demands blood of human kind with no end to killing and sacrifice.
The Jaguar is also known for a concept called "The Jaguar's Sun". It's a concept that describes both a physical and spiritual, as well as social concept- it's symbolized by the Myth that the Jaguar guards the Path to the Sun [at night], and continuously rages in battle with the Eagle for supremacy (Day comes and the night flees- The Eagle always Wins).
In the background you will notice that I have illustrated 2 types of plants- The Cacao Plant, and Maguey (Agave) plant- both make traditional - and what is considered to be two very spiritually powerful and- sacred drinks. While the plants themselves were associated with other Toels, they are clearly making a statement about the high-rank of Tepeyollotl.
Note: I am aware that both the Jaguar heads at the top "don't line up"- they weren't supposed to to begin with. I receive many complaints about this, but I wasn't going for symmetry when drawing it. :)

I absolutely love this, for so very, VERY many reasons! I bet you can guess why! XD
I also wanted to say, I really appreciate that you take the time to explain the background and process for your images, too - I know you don't have to, and I'd enjoy the art anyway, but personally I ALWAYS love to hear more about each piece - so, thanks! :D :D :D

The pleasure is all mine!
Considering I work with Aboriginal cultures, I come to realize that there are a lot of bad misconceptions that they are trying to rectify. And if I already have someone's attention to the matter, I will continue in that way to help rectify the issues. Also, you come to realize that there isn't such a thing as just "drawing a pretty picture" or "drawing what I like" when it comes to cultural oriented materials. If it wasn't explained, you would loose the value of what the image represents.
I am also always thankful for people who READ the explanations. Far too often I am met with people who just hit right-click-download without ever bothering to learn something. SO thank YOU for taking the time to read what I ave to say!

Yes, those three cultures are so distinct from one another, they are even more of an inspiration when studies in their core and applicable senses. I don't run out of Aztec inspiration thanks to my dance group! If ti's not regalia, it's oral tradition, and if it's not oral tradition it's a history lesson. They ALWAYS have something to tell me!
