A fanart I wanted to draw for a very long time now.
Eternal is visiting the comic universe of "Mit Mantel und Degen" and is up to start a duel with Don Lope de Vilalobos y Sangrin (the wolf) who in fact is terribly afraid of rats^^
Dialogues:
Rat^^: Haha! Your dagger is trembling very much, Herr Lope!
Don Lope: By god! Shut up, miserable one!
Rat: Don´t you have courage enough to face Erwin T. Fessler Edler von Pöchlarn in a duel? (Side note: Eternal has aname that refers to an Austrian title of a nobleman - Edler is something like a count)
Don Lope: L... let your blade speak for you.
Rat: (note: In german this is a little mocking poem^^)
Well did I ever see a dagger shiver that much?
He claims to be a fearce wolf...
But look! He sticks his tail bedween his legs.
Characters from this comic belongs to Jean Luc Masbou and Alain Ayroules

Yeah but they....did horrible things....because Inquisition and or going over to the Americas and basically putting the Natives there to work in mines for Silver, of which is not healthy because without the proper breathing equipment, those mines could have had Sulfur or any air-contaminating substances around. But also disease...and a few other things.
. . . .alright, hhhhhhhhh...maaayyyyyybe that was a bit too much for one comment, it may be fact but I don't to look like a complete ass and look like I hold a grudge for something that happened over hundreds of years ago. You know what? I guess Old Spanish were closer to fighters, while newer Spanish is closer to what you say they are. Times change. X3

Yeah...ashamed to say that us Natives also did relatively fucked up things. From what I learned over a year or two ago, some Natives actually use to hunt other Natives, it was usually the more savage ones. So some Europeans weren't all bad coming to the americas. They did some of what they did because other Natives asked for help because they not only had the Man Power, but also the correct weapons that were more advanced, sturdy, and to boot, good-looking.
I've heard of all of those things but for the "100 Year War", I've learned some World history, and it must have either not been covered or I completely forgot, we usually learned who caused what and who was doing what.
I mean...by relation, despite being Incan-related myself, as I'm 55% Peruvian which includes Incan and Mestizo, the Aztecs and Mayans were pretty damn brutal due to intense-ish Polytheism. Aztecs would mostly sacrifice Slaves or so, and there was no anesthetics around at that point, so...alot of it is pretty brutal, but they usually only did it because almost everyone feared that the Earth would stop having Night and Day cycle through properly. While Mayans did the same thing but through the Mesoamerican Ball Game. Of which is pretty oddly, accurately portrayed (except some of how you play) in El Dorado the City of Gold (By Dreamworks). Anyone who lost the ballgame, if you could ever score a point or two, was sacrificed, and from real life, I've learned that the skulls of who were sacrificed were used as the Ball Cores. Brutal but....there's some inventive ingenuity there...so yeah, even I can't really say that my lineage is really any better.
E-er...honestly surprised you replied to anything I said. Didn't think I'd be talking with you.

Like I said, the British have more than their fair share of atrocities, Henry VIII caused a major upset when he divorced/executed his wife... forcefully converting the entire country to his newly formed "Church of England" by pain of death... for his eventual successor to force the country back to Catholicism only for Elizabeth I to force everyone back to Church of England with newly added Protestant values.
The 100 years war was fought between England and France (like most wars... the English and French were almost always at war).
So yeah... your ancestors may have cause horrible atrocities in the name of their Gods (like many others before and since) but at least it wasn't mass genocide because "I don't like this wench any longer, it's broken and I want another one!" XD

Huh, so that's what the 100 Year War is. I completely forgot that France and England were kinda....fighting constantly but it was in such a way that I was like "That's normal."
PFFFFFFFFFFTTTT!! Your quote is so hilariously wrong-sounding that it's much more hilarious when its said! But its very true!

On that topic you can go into details without an ending.
You mentioned the spanish inqusition and the conquistadors. You could say that Austria has a bit of fault in this as well, because Spain was ruled by the spanish bllodline of the house of Habsburg, whom ruled Austria from the late 13th century until 1918.
The crusades, also stired up the arabian world and we can feel the after effects up to this very day.
Then there was not only the 100 year lasting war bedween England and France, but also the 30 year lasting war in middle Europa when Catholics and Protestants fought against each other (in fact it was more or less the proclaimed justification for this coalition wars that left Germany shattered in many little kingdoms)
You could also add here the history of China come to living for it was many little states at first and then assimilated by the first chinese emperor dynasty, not to mention the period of the struggling states, a war period allmost litterally never ending. The many conflicts in the sengoku aera in Japan, the Mogul dynasty in India fought against the former maharadschas. The war bedween England and China because of Opium etc etc
I can assure you no country in this world of humans is innocent for that matter...

Every single thing you said is far from wrong, in fact I'd say that you're 100% correct. It just feels so weird to sometimes forget and remember how much blood is in the past no matter the lineage. Its sometimes jarring, but also sometimes saddening.
"We have no tomorrow, but there's still hope for the future. In our struggle to survive the present we push the future farther away. Will I see it in my lifetime? Probably not. Which means there's no time to waste. Someday the world will no longer need us. No need for the gun, or the hand to pull the trigger." - Big Boss/Venom Snake

I am aware of human cruelty every day. And I know well about the past. But I have seen that humans are unlikely to change their ways, for they are doomed to repeat the same misstakes over and over again, it is in fact a never ending circle. Civilisations come to live, florish, reak their peaks and that they fall down into ruins, and after a certain time of anarchy, new civilisations will arise and they themselves repeat the same misstakes and so it goes on and on...
In fact, noble is the best you can use for Edler. but noble is more of an adjective. the correct translation for Edler as a person would be noble man . In the context you use you could say. Noble man of... or.. man of noble family.. All of it does not sound too well I guess ^^
Hehe. Don Lope will have nightmares about you from this day on XD

Maybe the Rat should help Don Lope gain confidence so he can get the sword fight he wants. He can hire a pretty lady to be a damsel in distress he can rescue as a means of motivation... unless this is it and he's stuck at the front door; hopefully the castle doesn't have a rodent problem. Meanwhile the lady's probably deadpan-eye-rolling her situation right now as she's waiting in highest room in the tallest tower ... the room's already locked, was it worth the payment to be bound and gagged as well? The rat could have a least left a book to read or something. XD
I think really that Don Lope would have nothing to fear as even if Eternal's intentions had been to have a serious duel I think here he's in one of his more playful moods as shown with his mocking poem. I imagine he'd be making full use of his small size and opportunity for some swashbuckling, so probably a lot of flourishes and insults and generally dancing around the wolf all while not getting so much as a whisker out of place, before finally disarming Don Lope and forcing the wolf to surrender. I suspect he might even complement Don Lope on being such an amusing opponent though possibly with a little more mockery.
Though I could see it ending with a loud squeak of horror from Eternal as the flailing blade slices the top of his stylish hat, the feather lost and an ear just missed, Don Lope dropping his sword and finally running in terror from the deadly rat as Eternal mourns the loss of his headgear.

Ah, what a fetching outfit for a most dashing rat! It suits him certainly (and the miniscule size he is displaying him makes him quite the 'pick me up') Eternal displays such bravado and cockiness to mock his significant bigger foe. What a great coincidence that this wolf is terrified of rats. I'm sure Eternal is only making it worse with his large display of confidence and mocking his foe, surely increasing Don Lope's sense of weakness all the more. Just wait, I can see Eternal prance around him and waving his tiny sword at the Don's ankles and making the wolf go mad in fear, hopping around and squeaking for the handsome, small muskateer to get away from him. This shall surely be a duel to remember! (and one that the Don shall not forget anytime soon, as any ongoers surely shall not let him forget as they tease him.) Poor wolf is quaking, only making this more fun to look at. And since you started with both duelists at the same size during the close ups, the actual sizes shown at the bottom just makes this more amusing. ^^
(I wish to scoop up Eternal and run away with him, as he constantly jabs his toothpick of a sword at my neck. XD He's far too alluring to not squeal over)

X//3 I'd buy one of those instantly. Lots of hugging to be had and squealing from a dork such as myself. Of course Id fantasize over having the real thing too. I'll make sure to get a little fake sword accessory for my plush too. Then I can show said plush to the real thing, who would likely be intolerably embarrassed over it hugging it around so affectionately. ...darnit, now I imagine that the Eternal plush rat would also squeak whenever one squeezes it, all in that dapper and cute musketter costume. You tease. X//3 Eternal continues to be so heckin swoony. Well, when you draw him more small and pure rat like, he's straight up adorable. When he's...his regular self..its....he's so gosh dang haaaandsome!
