Who is Ran?
A perfectly pleasant Sylveon who worked for the Aether Foundation and joined the prototype experiments for the RKS System that would later be integrated into Type:Null. A super prototype, if you will.
How did that work?
A mixture of unstable Eeveelution genes, some Ditto genetic infusions, and a whole lot of technological implants. Sweet-ass cyborg surgery to be sure.
Ditto infusions?
Not sex. Genetic shenanigans. He was already a Sylveon, so the Ditto cells just helped make his Eeveelution cells flexible again. As a side-effect, he can morph a little! You should see him gain muscles when he uses Type:Fighting for example.
Implants?
Electronic eyes with a really cool HUD, an electronic heart/RKS Drive, glow lines to determine his type and other cute metallic widgets like his antenna (He picks up Wi-Fi and telecommunications too!) and internal reinforcements to support his multifaceted powerset.
Was this against his will?
Hell no, he got a fat cash line with the Aether Foundation and an absolute tonne of personal care from Acting Director Wicke. It was all very above board and very friendly and he knew exactly what he was getting into.
What are the glow lines?
Don't forget other spots like his antennae and, if you look really closely, his eyes. The white glow changes colour (starting from his reactor heart) depending on what Type he's using. Fire? Red. Grass? Green. Flying? A shade of blue different from the blue that would be used for Water.
And his RKS Drive?
As a prototype system before Aether decided to work on Type:Null, Ran is capable of double-typing (Fairy/XXX) and should he really try it, triple-typing (Fairy/XXX/XXX) though the latter drains his endurance much faster for obvious reasons. Also, it's flush with his chest and proofed as well as lensed. None of that Iron Man reactor removal bullshit here.
Why nullified?
In-universe? His unstable Eevelution/Ditto genetic structure meant breeding was out of the question. So he was nullified, making him smooth in front. As a side-effect, he gets to look prettyboy forever due to the arrested development!
Out-of-universe? His first picture was PG and I just rolled with the nullified idea.
