In Santería (La Regla Lucumí), there was talk of several orichas whom the slaves of Brazil as well as Cuba and other regions would come to worship, being a blended mix of Yoruban practices from Africa, and the Catholic practices that the slavemasters who brought them to new lands would force them to adopt. Among the orichas was one named Elegguá (a.k.a. Elewá, Elegbá). The gatekeeper. He is the first and most important Orisha in Santería. He is the owner of the crossroads, the witness of fate and acts as the connecting agent in this world. Elegguá is often perceived as a trickster or impish child who tests our integrity. Naturally, he quickly became my favorite in the studies that I undertook before graduating with my first degree before turning on to the next area of my study.
This is where Malandro comes in. This being my first, and likely only god-fur type fighter, is based directly from Elegbá, and whose trickster characteristics play heavily into the written, and now physical creation of the howler monkey. The name itself translates directly from Portuguese (for those who don't already know) to literally mean "trickster." While he is always up for a bit of fun, especially at the expense of those who are foolish, he is not one to be trifled with. Become his ally and you will find yourself on the Path. Become his enemy... and your torment may last longer than just in the ring~
I am so so so so so grateful to
StuffedBra for bringing the words to life in the form of Malandro!
And by that extension of course, Malandro belongs to be - though is he really belonging to anyone?

Perfectly fine!
An oricha is a spirit - the Santeria equivalent to a god if you will. While compared to that of Eqyptian, Norse, or Greek mythology, these orichas are actually directly likened to and worshipped alongside Catholic Saints (something I forgot to mention.)
In this case, Elegba (and therefore Malandro in my oc's case) are also in part based on/tethered to Saint Anthony in Christian Religion
