Yum, a baked apple.
I call it Hell's Apple (or Hell's Apples) because it was a nightmare for me to make. I burned myself three times, the first time basting them I had to put my hand in a 400 degree oven and cook my hand to baste them. Second time, the heat slipped through the oven mitt and burned the meaty bit just under my thumb on my palm, and the fourth final time it burned one of my knuckles pretty bad getting the pan out.
Recipe
Ingredients
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 tbsp butter
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp vanilla
some more vanilla extract, separately
Directions
1. Use an apple corer or something along those lines to core the apples, without going all the way through. I used a simple steak knife to cut a circle in the top without going all the way through and used a spoon to scoop out the innards of the apple.
2. Use a potato peeler (or something of the sort) and peel a line around the apple. This lets the apple breathe.
3. Line a pan with tin foil, and fill the bottom with a mix of water and vanilla extract. You don't need to use too much vanilla, maybe 2 tablespoons. I used about 4, personally.
4. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly, until it creates a sort of a paste thing, and fill each apple with it.
5. Place the apples in the pan, and put it in the oven on 400f.
6. Baste the apples every 10 minutes. This means, simply, use a turkey baster (I burned myself because I didn't have one, I had to use a spoon 3=) and suck in the water at the bottom of the pan, and use it to baste the apples. I set the oven timer for 10 minutes, basted them, and re-set it, and did this four times (40 minutes)
Enjoy, and don't burn yourself!
Wow, look at that, I actually have a real reason to put this in the "Apple" species category!
