Brewery: Vliegende Paard Brouers*
Name: Prearis Quadrupel
Style: Belgian Quadrupel
Origin: Belgium
Bottle: 750ml
ABV: 10%
Appearance: A murky orange-red
Pours: fairly easily. A 1” off-White head slowly comes into being and sticks around.
Smell: I could not really detect anything in the bottle other than a brief one-time passing of a generic, malty beer smell
Taste: A faint hint of bitterness, just enough to give it a bit of a bite. While hardly fruity by presumably anyone’s standards there is what could be called a grapefruit peel flavor with cherries or cherry-lime-aid, with vanilla and spices(Cinnamon-Cardamom); and with the those I’m really grasping at straws in a very dimly lit room. None of it I would hardly call distinct by any measure. The after swallow taste of alcohol is undeniable but, hardly overpowering either.
Something light and simple, a catchy beat but with some thought to it, maybe Ok-Go or Owl City? Or to be more cynical-slash-sarcastic television white noise or a dripping faucet, but I thought I’d be polite and give it the much, much nicer comparison.
Mouthfeel: A viscosity like orange-pineapple juice, and some alcohol afterwaft.
Rating: 6.1 First off High German Gothic Capital letters look awesome but are a real PITA to read sometimes. Secondly, I was fooled by the label and was expecting so much more depth and complexity of flavors, and, ~huff~ I’m not getting that(So okay yeah I set myself up).
That alcohol post flavor nearly wipes away what little else flavor it has, but not so much to make me apprehensive to take that next swallow, just, unexcited.
A real “meh” inducing brew.
I keep checking the label to see if it doesn’t really say ‘Dreary’ and not ‘Prearis’
And what is that art on there? Two equines in the “I love you man!” Stage drunkenly leaning on each other?
I probably would have rated this higher with a smaller bottle but a 750 is a bit of a chore to work through by oneself.
Perfect for the introvert who sort of feels like socializing but not really as this is more suppressing than conducive to conversation.
*This is an ale house. This is actually brewed by someone else but sold and distributed through here. I can’t find the name of the actual brewery though.
