This is India the white tigress.
India, like most white tigers, most likely originated from a breeder seeking personal profit. She came to the EFRC in September 2001. About a year after she arrived we discovered that she was going blind. Unlike cats with cataracts, which can be removed, there was nothing that could be done for India. Blindness and other physical problems are common among white tigers due to the constant inbreeding that occurs in order to reproduce cubs with this white genetic mutation. India is a favorite for a lot of the children that visit the center.
While visiting her, I took a few pics and caught one of her licking her chops which makes her look like she's sticking her tongue out at me. Though blind, she can maneuver around her enclosure just like any of the normal cats using keen tactile and aural senses.
